over the past thirty odd years ive ridden some fantastic bikes old and new,but there is nothing in the world has ever come close to the experience of riding my 750ss.the bike is ten years old and only had 8.5k on it.in just under 3 month ive put 5k on it! So why are there so many low milage ducatis around.how can there be more enjoyment in looking at a bike sat in the garage than riding it.it doesnt make any sense to me.unless of course you lived with all of the pussy cat dolls,

I agree, it just doesnt make sense to me. I got my 996r last summer and it only had 2500 miles on it! Less than 1000 miles a year just doesnt make sense to me unless you have a load of bikes that you also use. I have put another 2500 miles on it this summer but it would be a lot more if it were not for the fact I use my Multistrada a lot more. I'm not bothered at all if the mileage on the 996r goes right up as I think its a shame that people dont use such bikes as they want to keep the mileage down to keep the value up. Cant see much point in having such a great bike if you are afraid to actually ride the thing. Seems to be quite a few very low mileage Rs about and its a shame.

Shauns got the right idea as his had about 15,000 miles on his (been round the clock at least once though :D )

4,000 mile on an 11 year old bike

bought my 996 with exactly 4000 miles on it - it was five years old at the time! I put 8000 on it in the first year......now needs the 16k service!

Thank the Lord for 'LMDRs' Low mileage Ducati Riders.

It means that I can buy a low mileage Ducati (LMD) and stick an additional 10k on it in 2 years. The 748 has 28k on it now, so I am just about to purchase an S4 with 5k on it, the 748 is NOT being sold but retired to the track. In two year time I will buy another LMD, that will be three (prob a 999s).

Why because LMD are a lot cheaper than brand new.

going back to the beginning of the thread - I get alot of pleasure from just sittin' and staring at my Ducati. It gets cleaned/loved as hard as it gets ridden (especially round Knockhill)!!!

I don't get any pleasure from starin at it at all the noo. Ijust wanna get on it and let it fly:mad: ;)

Over 15,000 miles on a 2002 998. The first owner had put 1700 miles on in the first 12 months.

According to the handbook 6,000 in 12 months is the benchmark, you try selling one at 3 years 18,000 miles, both the trade and private punters give ya the Arfur daley sharp intake of breath.

If you service, tax and and insure 'em thats a big chunk of "fixed cost" every 12 months, the more miles ya do the more miles those fixed costs are spread over.

Best just to choose a bike yer like and keep it, that way you never pay for the depreciation!

Ray.

I'd love to put more miles on my 996 ..

.. but it's doing my wrists and arms in trying to ride around the bloody congested roads here in the South East  If I could keep her in Spain (or Penrith) I'd be able to really enjoy her - as it is I can't. Trying to put big miles on a race replica on the roads down here is just a waste of time.

I sold my 996R for 2 reasons: 1) the value falls through the floor as soon as they do more than 6,000 miles, 2) I was scared of ruining it :o

We'll see how the GS gets on, however, I know I'll be able to ride it up to the house in Spain - I wouldn't have dared ride up to it on the 996

had one of my customers in (a harley rider) and he just bought his mrs a 95 virago 535 with 30 miles on it.it was an old bloke who when he retired decided he wanted to go biking drove it the 30 miles home and changed his mind. its been sitting under cover in his garage ever since. its still a new bike in my opinion that.

When I bought my 2001Y 748 in april 2003 it had done 600 miles! It had been given to the seller as a gift by Ducati UK for sponsoring the Ducati Dienza race team and all he had used it for was a few track days at Cadwell and Rockingham. It had done 14k when it was put to sleep on the 11th june this year. RIP:cry:

it had been used well till then mate and that helps:)

I have always been grateful to folks who buy a bike pose on it,polish it and put it away, get bored with it want another shiney one and sell me the hardly used one... so I can ride the crap out of it!!! I have never sold one of my bikes ,written off or stolen, and only one trade in so far. But I am guilty of having a bike I dont do many miles on, I went out on it a couple of time last week and it was fun, a 78 Bonneville, I have 13500 miles. on the Bonnie and a little bit more on the 04 Monsta. I do thrash the Monster its not very fast but a truckload of fun, but next year I may be looking for an additional bike, maybe an older Morrini or Guzzi with low miles, anyone???:D

A constellation, near Andromeda, just north of Tacoma:beer: Saw 'nother one at the dealers today, wants rid of his 1100cc Guzzi so he can buy a 999 and go 200mph, oh PLEASE buy it and when it doesnt go 200mph sell it to me ...cheap:thumbs:
