We can all see what you're trying to do here, distract all the other members from how long you have actually been doing your Kawasaki build, even now still claiming it is finished when none of us have actually seem any pictures of it ! Are you related to Everclear by any chance ? :rolleyes:

I've just stripped and rebuilt mine over the last two weeks, so I'm now 2 weeks and counting ;)

Picked up the latest 3D prints of my clutch cover & steering damper arm earlier today. At least they fit now, that I've got the dimensions right !! :rolleyes:
I can now get my friendly engineering company the machine me one of each, now I know they'll fit !!

The rear brake master cylinder arrived the other day so I got the mounting bracket made & tacked in place. I've fully welded the support bit to the main bracket, (which is on the back of the main bracket & out of sight) but as my welding is still not good enough yet, visually, I'll get the on-show bits welded by my mate !

I've just got to get the hose end changed & re-swaged & then the operating rod made/bent to connect the brake pedal to the master cylinder.

Started to mount the rear mudguard today. After quite a bit of faffing about I've managed to get the centre mounts tacked on & the rear stays on, together with the two rear indicator mounts.
One of the middle mounts below.

While I'd got the wheel out I also drilled a hole to mount a P-clip on the rear brake hose so it doesn't rub on one of the brake torque link bolts. By then I'd run out of time & enthuasium so I'll fit the front lower mount tomorrow, for now the Moretti is calling !! 🍺

Just finished the lower mudguard mount. I ended up making a bit of a boss to help support the arm of the mount & spread the load a bit, vibrations from Harley type engines are killers of poor engineering ! :ROFLMAO:

Now the mudguard is mounted it almost looks finished, the only visible absences are the exhaust, throttle cable & the magneto. There's still quite a bit to do though like mounting the M.Unit & drilling various holes to pass the wiring loom through. I'll be hiding as much as possible within the frame tubes, trying to keep the visible wires to a minimum.

Mounted the speedo "menu" button today. I'm guessing Exi will think this bracket is a bit gash as well, but I was struggling to come up with any better ideas at the time. I can always redo it at some point in the future, if I can think of anything, but it'll have to do for the time being & once the wires are attached & string sleeving is fitted I'm sure it won't look that bad !! ;)

Is the steering stem hollow? Maybe make the switch stand out less

Yes the stem is hollow & I'd thought of that, but the problem is routing the wires out. Because of the leaf springs & the steering damper wire routing would be an issue.

On the left grip buttons, you appear to have 3 buttons, could one of those be used or is there space for more buttons on the right grip. ?
 
All the buttons, three per side, are spoken for. Left-hand is left-hand indicator, horn & high/low beam. Right-hand is right-hand indicator, engine start & engine kill.
You can get push-buttons that pick up using one of the clutch or front brake lever mounting screws. Problem is I want it on the left-hand side so I can operate it with my left hand while riding, but if it's above the clutch lever it looks shit & below the lever looks better, but it will hit the fuel tank.

I might machine a suitable threaded tube & then mitre it into the left-hand handle bar on the other side of the clutch lever clamp & weld it on at an angle. I still might do that if I can get a suitable tap, but it's a bit of an odd sized thread. The wires could then run inside the handle bar along with the wires from the other three switches.

It'll do where it is for the time being though, I only really have to decide before painting.

Would be best to ride it/ look at it for a bit if possible then make final decision.
Done loads of stuff ( OK, minor mods) on my bikes that were not so great to live with and some just epic fails! Still, at the end of the day it's just an evolving thing and gives ya something to tinker with..
Looking good bro.. got to be honest and say that style of bike is far from my cup of tea but I admire ya skills and love this thread. Love a build and the fact that your doing ya own thing. I would say it will certainly turn a few heads!!!

I've got the regulator mounted now, I've rubber mounted it to help isolate it from the vibrations although I have no doubts the Cycle Electric regulator is built to cope with Harleys, I just figured any extra help can't be a bad thing !!

Being rubber mounted & hence electrically not bonded to the frame, just means I'll need to make up some bonding leads & connect them between the regulator & the bike frame. I'll weld a suitable threaded lug on the frame in a suitable spot at some point, maybe even two lugs just to be sure !

I know when some want to improve handling they replace thier rubber bushes with poly ones which give a firm support but still with some level of vibration control. Should the rubber mounts not work out then perhaps some poly?
 
The guy on the Z1 forum, zed1015, also found a few other issues with things like screws being too long/loose, but if you read through his build thread on the Z1 Owners forum all will be revealed !

I need to get it back in the garage and strapped to the ceiling so I can lean it over so I don't have to drain the oil :) looks like I will definitely need a plug, still can't believe Electrex World haven't sorted this issue or even made note of it in the kits! :mad:

Most electronic components/equipment on motorcycles, even modern Japanese multi-cylinder bikes, is rubber mounted to help keep vibrations from damaging the components & boards they are mounted on.
I don't know this with any certainty, but the modern method of float mounting components to PCB's, (as I understand it) as opposed the old school method of soldering the components with a soldering iron, by hand is not the best method in terms of robustness. It is however, quick & cheap !! Hence the multitude of electronic failures these days not only on bikes, but also on cars.

Using poly bushes for this job would not be the best as the poly is not intended/designed to perform this task. Using rubber bushes is the best cost effective vibration isolation method for such instances. Many similar custom bikes, using Harley type engines, have been built without any such considerations & seem to plod on unaffected. Hopefully, if I do build in such features I should definitely not have any issues, maybe, hopefully ......... !! Every little helps !! The only thing you have to remember is to earth your unit if required, with wiring as once rubber mounted it is electrically isolated from the vehicle earth.

Like I said, rubber mounting the regulator can only help it's longevity, hopefully, maybe, certainly won't do it any harm anyway !! ;)
