Unfortunately I had a stroke before xmas and would like to eventually get back on the 996. has anyone got any similar experience or know anyone getting back on a bike after such an event ....there is plenty of info.about getting back behind the wheel and I am currently in the process of that with my GP and DVLA but obviously a bike is a different kettle of fish..... e.g. do you have to retake your test, have specialist reassessment. most non-bikers, medical fraternity clearly believe the stroke has unhinged me to want to get back on a bike but it is one of the goals I have set myself. any advice, contacts would be gratefully received

My understanding is that there is no difference between car and bike rules.
Providing DVLA have been notified and they are prepared to let you retain your licence and doctor has no objection to you driving/riding then that is it.
If DVLA are happy then insurance will also be happy.
I am sure DVLA could confirm the procedure if you contact them.
Best wishes for a full recovery and getting back on the bike.;)

from experience in my family. i.e. my dad. although there is some brain damage after a stroke, it truly is a case of the harder you work at it the more the rewards. my dads not a biker but after a very severe stroke he,s driving, could probably walk further than me and at 70 is a hell of a lot fitter than me.
its great that you've set yourself such high goals and if i can help encourage you to achieve them then i will.
keep us up to date on your progress

Sorry to hear about this too.

From the experience in my family too - the more positive you are about it and the more determined you are then, as Gordon says, the more rewards you will achieve..... my advice is to just go for it and let nothing stop you!!
Best wishes mate:)
