MOTs and Termis....

So my MOT is due shortly and just wondering how much of an issue Termis are likely to cause on a 749s??

Never had a bike MOT before so this is all new to me... Haven't got a clue where I'm even going to take it yet or what else it might fail on!! :lol2:

Cheers!

Dave.

Mine passed with Termis, no reflector, 6 x 4 plate, no indicators and no clutch cover. Although it did fail on the fact I fitted the front wheel in back to front :o:o

I've just ordered some stick on reflectors from ebay so that's covered at least!

Where do you live, ive used a place in Airdrie for years without any problems.

termis

748s failed its mot last year .judged by mot tester to be to loud.took bike to another station and it passed .noise level no apparent guide lines for testers decision left to individual testers:confused:

it does kind of depend on the place you go to for your mot. the rules regarding cans are shall we say open to interpritation (no i obviously dont know how to spell)and where one might fail you another might pass you happily enough. it is im afraid a bit of a hit and miss affair

Nr Blantyre just now Rossman.... Airdrie is close enough... Feel free to pm me the info!

Hypothetically - if the Termis are stamped 'for racing use only' ... Is that the kind of thing 'one' should cover somehow?!?!

Cheers!

Dave.

just stick some tape over the markings, they are not allowed to remove it. There is no requirement to start a bike either for an MoT as they are not emmission tested, only start them if they suspect a blowing exhaust or to ride them to the brake tester

That's interesting. Didn't realise bikes weren't emissions tested.

Actually had a wee squeaky bum moment when a bike cop was checking over the bike last week and pointed out the Termis weren't standard and were for racing use only - to his colleague!!! thankfully they both seemed to agree all Ducatis should have them :lol2:

First thing I did with the 749 was remove the Termi stickers for no other reason than I think the logo is at best, cheap looking and naff. It also is less obvious at a glance that it's a race system :)

Took my 749 at the start of March for its MOT and have to say it was the most lax MOT i,ve ever had. Didn,t have the Termi on it at the time but i really don,t think it would have mattered anyway. The guy practically MOT,d it by looking at it , he done the brakes and lights and that was it really. Took in total about 8mins....

Maybe it was something to do with the time it was booked in for 2.45pm on the friday afternoon . Also i think the age and how well you maintain it makes a difference as my mate who was with me on a 96 speed triple had his bike MOT,d by the same guy a month before. He went over every single bit of his bike and failed it . My mate was ripping it when he seen the way he MOT,d mine.

My last cbr had a Scorpion can on it marked with FOR RACE USE ONLY and it passed every time .

If i where you i,d put it in and see what happens - you might get the guy in a good mood or wanting to get home quick.....

From what I have been told by the testers they can pass a bike providing "in their opinion" it is not excessively noisy and cans are not marked "for race use" or "not for road use".
I would think tape etc over the offending statement may be ok assuming it has not melted off by time you get there.
Testing stations are getting a harder time than before on this stuff and there is a minimum time "allowed" for each MOT so if someone is doing it in 8 mins they can expect a visit from the inspectors very shortly.;)
This is their livelihood and I think it is only fair that rather than pressurising them to pass something they shouldn't it is fairer to stick the "legal" cans on before you go (assuming you have them) and you can change afterwards.
I know of 2 cases where as an MOT was completed the inspector walked through the garage door and said "you have just logged off the computer completing a test, I am now going to check the vehicle myself". Power of the laptop!
Publishing names of stations that are breaking the rules is probably not in their interests either. ;):)

I agree with Stuart.... Had my 748 MOT'D no probs with carbon cans on not termi's but also no writing on them....tester said he would put an advisory on it but passed no probs....I think its about presentation and attitude, bike needs to be mint and everything spot on inc wheel bearings, if it looks good they all love nice bikes so will be impressed....if your cans say "racing" or "not for road use" you could have a problem...and yes this is an open forum so to say that XYZ motorcycles will pass anything might be a bit detremental in the long term...

As the guys say,
a well presented bike may go a long way,
I recently had my 998 passed no problem and it's fitted with the carbon termis, but no wee number plate or wee indicators.
i'm sure he wanted to take it for a blast though
good luck..

I got an advisory for noisy exhaust, 996+Termis

I take my noisy monster to Strathclyde Autotune at Peacock Cross in Hamilton. Have done for years and the guy is brand new. I know of a few more Ducatis that go there too.:)

Ditto what Foxy says about Strathclyde Autotune.

I was told this too but also that they take the make of bike in to consideration - i.e. Ducatis are usually louder than Jap bikes.

I took my neighbour's 749R to the MOT for him a few weeks ago, complete with full race Termi system - passed with an advisory (to cover the tester). Bike is very well presented and was fitted with original (legal) number plate.
