multistrada 2010

well, it's definitely a bit too early for some gossips about the 2010 programme.

but i expected already for 09 a replacement for the multistrada. some sources, more or less reliable, were talking about a 'strada aperta'...

during the eicma the company has obviously told/showed something about this totally renewed multistrada. complete new design (comparable with triumph tiger) and, if it's true, powered by a water-cooled engine (1098/sf).

so, if it's really a 2010 model there are three more in the pipline.

what ya think which kind of bike they should bring, too ?

Big tanked, Multi / Hyper hybrid would be ace, taking a bit of a lead from the GS / KTM but back to Ducati iconic design, afterall the GS ain't no preedddy bike so get radical with the design - in that sector a capable bike is all that matters, a mate of mine has just done the 'Long Way Round' on a V-Strom, yep a commuter bike that has just proven to be awesome, right out there in the thick of it !

its a tough one for Ducati as high miler bikes like GS's are cheap to run and service and have high residuals i know some on here aren't bothered about that but to tempt BM or KTM riders away servicing costs and residuals have to be comparative. I'm not sure whether it needs to be off road capable, I'd have said not after owning 2 multis but now I'm starting to ride the GS on trails its opened up a different aspect of biking and would look for this ability on my next purchase.

I can't see the water cooled engine offering any real advantage, getting the rad and front cylinder in the line of fire from stones isn't what i'd want, surely an air cooled engine is easier and cheaper to service as well? If you are doing reasonable mileage on this type of bike low service costs are really important and anything that reduces it has to help.

Design wise it needs to take ideas from others - simple stuff like a centre stand that works and doesn't ground, panniers racks you can leave on and look like they are meant to be there, heated grips with the control on the handlebars not the dash panel, info computer operated from switch gear not stretching forward to dash, adjutable height and angle screen and adjustable seat to fit more rider sizes or simply being able to swap seat height during a trip. Most importantly for me a shaft or belt system, if its not going off road ditch the chain and have it on belt, i hate lubing chains or having to fit a Scottoiler :) dual power outlets, space for GPS designed into dash layout so it doesn't obscure clocks. Pillion seat removable and then flush to top of panniers when fitted so you can fasten wider bags across that area supported by the area below seat and the panniers. Height adjustable and removable pillion pegs and plenty of space for pillion if possible. 20 - 25 litre tank for getting round the north of Scotland on a Sunday :) No stupd indicatrs in mirrors, too expensive to replace, platic around seat/tail unit should be easy to replace and cheap, its easily damaged if you fit throw overs. Air/coil suspension so you can increase spring rate easily for heavier loads by increasing air pressure, i like the idea of ESA but its too complex and heavy. Hugger/spray guards under seat to stop crap getting thrown sideways and keep rider/pillion dry.

Phew, I've got loads more on a wish list but you are probably bored by now :D :D

not at all. go on, mate !

plus yr opinion if that kind of bike type is a typical one ducati should follow.
probably that's a market where the company can't compete really well 'cause they have more skills for a sportive range ? more interesting is a legal and real replacement for the supersport series or, as a real cracker, a new exotic single cylinder racer like the supermono was. but maybe i'm wrong...

they should interview the clients how a future range could be to get some ideas.

hmm, a photoshop with guzzi screen, bm gs tank shape, cagiva gran canyon fairing ( terblanches design predecessor to the multistrada) and monster variants in engine/chassis wheels, not too convincing I'm afraid

yeah, right. after all i was told by someone who got the infos in milan the real bike will be 'breathtaking'. whatever this personal opinion means at least...

the next pics of an extract of parts of 20 different bikes are probably on their way...

there are a couple of other photoshop jobs going around already all of them way off the mark IMHO.

Hopefully the English reading Italians at the factory will read threads on sites like this while they are going through a quiet spell!

Good. I like my Pug faced Multi and don't want a blandsmobile thanks. I hope they make it distinctive AND breathtaking. Whatever that might look like

if they need someone to test it over winter tell them to give me a shout, I'm still getting the miles in despite the weather :)

gizmo, you're it ?:D
