My fun weekend...

Lily

Pink Totty
Racing at Snetterton!!

Bit of a nightmare on prep for us with one bike still in bits from Donington and then both of us working away all week. Managed to get them both in a 'reasonable' shape and after picking Jon up from airport after flying back from Canada we set of for the 5+ hour drive to Snett.

Arrived and managed to just about set up before it got dark then into bed shattered.
Up early to mist and damp to try and get a clutch on my bike and off for scrutineering as we were first out at 9am.

I have not had a great season so far with a combination of bad riding, head not working and a couple of collisions that have freaked me out. I have only ridden Snett once last year but enjoyed the circuit so was hoping to do 'ok'

Out for qually for saturday races (non championship) and its very slippy and back end is all over the place and I was having problems. I had an op a few weeks back and was finding it very painful to ride and the worse I rode the more tense I got and the more it hurt.. catch 22!!

Qualified last... great!!

First race and I was just finding it too hard so came in and decided to get some rest. Got my feet up for a bit and felt a bit better for second race. Got a crap start as usual but started actually working to make up some time and after a few laps got on the back of Jon having a dice with another lad. I wasn't too keen on trying anything as I had no intention to push it too hard, just hoping for more track time.

I am finding I am much faster round Coram and gaining on them both into Russells every lap, but happy to follow them through each time. Last lap and Jon takes it into the right to block the line form Tom and Tom follows leaving me with a mile of space to go through. I didn't plan to pass but it was rude to ignore the offer so through I went, just as i am about to tip left I fell a clunk on my back wheel and then it releases but I am now pointing at grass, no problem as I can still make it... oh no I can't as there is a bike sliding to my left. I pretty quickly run out of track and faced with tyre wall or dismount I exit left but land under the bike. Drag myself out from underneath and hobble off.

Tom is ok with a banged shoulder and apologising that he just couldn't stop, I apologised for my enthusiastic pass and we go to med centre. eventually let out after convincing them I am fine and collect bike before manic repair and tyre swapping so I can get out for last race to scrub tyres.

Mucho pain in the evening and another early night before up for another sunny but chilly morning. Not quite as slippy but I am struggling on the bike especially tipping into lefts as it's hard putting weight onto the pegs. Qualified 16!!! how crap am I???

First race and an average (which is good for me) start and after being passed I eventually catch Jon up but don't want to do anything giddy so just settle in and finish just behind him in 11th.

2nd race and I am really struggling so just aim for a finish. I get stuck behind another guy and just can't make my passes stick as I am unable to weight left leg so bimbling in places. Finally finish and just want t go home and sleep. Stinking cold, monster bruises, aching and shattered... gotta love this racing lark!!

not meaning to pry but did you eventually have the knee op? It can take a while to get back to full strength but def worth it!

Anyway - thank you, its a great write up again Claire and, no matter if you think you are crap or not (your soooooooooo not!!) you are still a hero in my books :hail: :hail: :hail:

no, decided that racing was more fun and as the knee wasn't 'hurting' that it wasn't a priority :o

Top tottie racing a Ducati, I know you won't mind me saying that, you are my hero also. Make sure that bloke of yours stops stroking his.....

...wait for it, Desmo and gives you some L&A to ease your aches and pains....

...coz I would if I was in his shoes! :o Good on yer Claire. :)

Hey Claire,

thanks for the report. I like reading those stories. Just a question do you have to be a licensed racer or can anyone start there?

All you need is an ACU license which involves an eye test and a day in Rugby sat in a classroom. You then need to join the DSC to be able to enter DD and also join New era who organise the racing. Its dead easy to sort out and I would recommend it to anyone, excellent fun and a great bunch of people that will help any newbies out. Go on give it a go, if you happen to need a dd bike I just happen to be selling one ;)

Nice one Claire, as long as you had fun thats all that counts really, hope you are not to bruised !

Ardberg, dead easy as Martin says and sooooo much fun, I enjoyed every minute of my DD racing !

Excellent report Claire. :D

Hope the bruises are dying down. I used to keep arnica in the tack box, both tablets and cream. If I was doing cross-country I used to take the tablets for two days before and then apply the cream as and when I got thumped. Used the same cream for the horses - don't think it would work on the bike.

Keep up th good work, well done once again.:D

have been on the arnica and diclofenac and now starting on the wine to see if that helps.

left leg is really not looking great ...then again it never really did look great anyway :D

Ardberg - anyone can join up and its a fantastic series especially for novice racers if you want to know any more about it just drop me a pm :)

Claire, wine, paracetamol, crisps (cheesy wotsits especially) and cookie dough ice cream everytime! and you can use the excuse for the ice cream as treatment for the leg ache -hope your feeling abit better soon.

it's not a pretty sight...

Well one week on and I still have a bit of a comedy limp and the swelling in my leg and ankle is not getting much better although the bruising has eased in some areas.

The centre of the bruise is hard and it looks like there is damage under the skin as the muscle appears to have a bit that is 'puckered' which is quite odd. I have no sensation on the skin and can't fell it when i touch, but boy can i feel it when i press it

I know it's not a pretty sight, but I am not planning on wearing a skirt this week...

Wow, I actually had to look twice then as i thought you had had a tattoo done on your leg!

Claire, when you briefly showed me your calf/leg not long afterwards on Saturday afternoon, it looked nothing like that, then you race next day and look at your leg now???? you are when heck of a girl - good on you, you're a star! ;)

Probably feels worse than it is, the lumpy hard bits will go very gradually, after a month or two should have gone. It's natures way of healing and is fairly slow at repairing itself. The loss of feeling is minor nerve damage and will return in about 6 to 9 weeks. If it's painful at night a few paracetamol will help and or alcohol!

today I have been thoroughly spoilt with a 16 hour day :(

Leg still hurts and Jon is probably unconscious under a table somewhere in Germany after an afternoon/evening at the Oktoberfest :D

Don't think that's the type of spoiling that was meant. Hope the leg gets better soon, it looks painful but colourful at the same time.:)

Take it easy, if you get the time. :D

bloody 'ell thats a cracker of a bruise:eek:
Hope you are managing a wee bit of RnR to help it heal.... and wine def assists the process too :)

Buggers! No that wasn't the way I meant spoilt! 16 hours sounds like hell! enjoy yourself and have a nice bath and a glass of red wine. This will help you recover from this nast bruise.
