neutral light stops working when hot??

I'm slowly sorting the Laverda out and its now running a bit better than when i picked it up but have a weird problem that as the engine heats up it runs rough and if i put it into neutral the neutral light either flickers or simply doesn't work, leave it to cool down, don't touch gear lever and light is working??. Not sure what can cause this but Laverdas are a bit like Ducati's when it comes to electrics, regulator is even a Ducati unit! Anyone got any suggestions??? I've not many Laverda Zane forums to visit as there are so few bikes on the road

Heat expansion of connectors or switch, only thing I can think of Mike.

Go through the circuit and check all connections and wiring..... but you have probably thought about that already!

Could always buy a Honda.....

all the wiring is dodgy Paul, tried cleaning every connector i can see but to no avail the power to the switch is live until you engage a gear at which point it interupts the circuit and light goes off so I think it would need to short to earth which shouldn't be a connector,? possibly the switch is shot?

I think the switch is sticking when it gets hot. If you warm the bike up in neutral I'll bet the light stays on - until you engage gear and then select neutral again.
Neutral lights usually work by supplying power to one side of the bulb. The other side is earthed by the switch when neutral selected so the bulb lights up. If any gear is selected the switch plunger is pushed in by the selector drum and the circuit is broken so the light goes out. Any poor connection or break in the wire will also make the light go out or flicker.

Michael, my 668 has a similar problem in that it the light seems to have no bearing to what gear I am or am not in.

Then again a neutral light is a "new" experience anyway and I have managed so far without one. :lol2:

haven't had a neutral light for years on the monster
when it did work it wasn't particularly accurate so when it stopped working I never bothered to get it fixed as I do better without it
