Anyone thinking of going to the NW this year (Main race day is Sat 16th May).

I was contemplating a one day trip - ferry from Cairnryan to Larne (07.30 dep and 20.00 return) - it's about an hour from the ferry to the race track.

I've never been before, has anyone else been on a one day trip/would you recommend?

Ferry trip is £80.00 return for bike and 1 rider.

i try and go every year..the one day trip is a tough one ....early early rise coupled with late late home makes it not an enjoyable day...try and get the one hour ferry crossing too....remember there is racing on thursday now so you might want to take that in too...great event and atmosphere..try and get as close as you can to portrush if you decide to stay...i stayed in antrim once and was a right hike to get to the racing..a handy thing to know is that almost every house up to the start/finish line opens theyr gardens for parking for a fiver so youll get parked no probs...i get the grandstand seats..i prefer them than going any where else in the circuit

i am going from the wed to the sunday and we have a booked a house in portrush so if you need somewhere to park give me a shout.
I would normally recommend the antrim cost road but on the Saturday morning it will be chockers so would suggest dual carriageway straight up to coleraine and then into portrush

I was planning to park in Coleraine (as close to the action as possible) to give me the chance to avoid most of the traffic heading further north. Long day though......I'm 70 miles from Cairnryan and its a further 50 from Larne up to Coleraine, so it would be a 240 mile day, admittedly split over about 20 hours! http://northwest200.org/nw200-circuit-map/

only thing to remember they shut the roads so make sure where you park is a place that wont have you blocked in.
also make sure you find out last entry onto ferry which is normally 30/45 mins before sailing.
not the first time i have been refused access onto the ferry because the gates are closed for tickets but you can still see them loading the ferry .
