Just visiting
I just joined the Ducatisti site. I came across it by chance the other evening, didn't even know it existed!
Is is me or is it rather frosty there? I think I got two messages of welcome and they were from BamBam and Scotch. Should I be bothering?

Your reputation precedes you then.........:p :D

there is a lot of difference Ed, UpNorth was set up as a social site in a region rather than being more technical/bling, thats not to say we don't have a wide depth of technical knowledge here or that Ducatisit doesn't have a social side but with this being more about meeting and the craic it does give a different atmosphere and there's a place for both.

Like all these sites Ed,you get out of them what you can.

heres a couple that I use as a mine of information, I find the US guys can be quite resourceful sometimes as they aren't all close to a decent dealer.

Perhaps Gizmo could set up a 'links to other useful sites' page somewhere.:)

...If I remember rightly, I'm a member of Ducati.ms, which is where dscreed found me lucking and introduced me to DuN (he's still gonna be hearing from my solicitor!!:p )
I suppose I should have a look and see.

I was a member of Ducatisti before joining up north. I regularly post on both. I like the ducatisti site but it does have a different "feel" to it.
They certainly have a lot of members and posts but I spend more time on up-north.:)

I'm a member at Ducatisti and find it a nice place! Sorry you didn't get a big welcome, but I think you'll find when you post up your "Members Bike" story, you'll get a big response considering how special it is!

I'd agree that there is a different feel to the two sites, for instance DuN can sometimes seem a bit cliquey because of the banter and "in jokeing" that goes on. That's not to say that DuN is not a nice place BTW! I think that it's just a by product of the fact that a lot of the members here actually seem to know each other. I pop in here nearly every day to have a laugh and see if there's anything going on up my way.

I don't think one site is any etter than the other, just different, with different emphasis'.

I don't do forums, this is the first forum I've been involved with and the only one really. I have to say I find this forum a great combination of passion and banter. I have already made a number of new friends, and even found some long lost old ones.... I would be surprised if such a site was replicated elsewhere, these tend to be very much "one offs". It's my opinion, and remember the p1sh I can talk, but DuN I feel isn't just a forum, it's a blend of lifestyle too, and for ME, that is DUCATI. We bang on about the racing and heritage, but I honestly think Ducati, DuN, SDC, have every bit a vibrant "community" as the Harley guys have, except WE mix it better. We have the fast guys on track, the tourers on foreign trips, and the whole lot mixed on ride outs and Midgie Mashers.

Gizmo, don't change a thing... when it ain't broke, don't fix it. And DuN most certainly "ain't broke".... IMHO.

PI004, had a passing look at several Duke sites, DUN is the only one that does it for me, FFS I'm away on holiday and still logging on to check out the banter!! Like the people and find myself agreeing with the opinions much more often than not, and know that when I don't I can say so. Often learn something. Brings a lot more to owning my Ducati.:D

I would say every site or forum could appear to be cliquey if you are looking in for the first time unless it is purely used for technical questions etc.
DuN will be different to many because of the way it has developed it has put the emphasis on the social side where members are going out on their bikes and meeting other members rather than operating in their own circle of established contacts.
The result is that people have actually met and as a result treat each other differently on the forum. This could appear cliquey if you have just joined but it is a big clique!:D
Answer is find out where a run is happening in your area and tag along. My experience has been anyone new turning up is given a warm welcome and you just have to realise that most folk here don't take life too seriously.

When I first came onto DuN I too thought it was very cliquey, but was VERY quickly "adopted"... that's the strength of DuN. But I made the effort, and it does take TWO to have a conversation, even a cyber one... and I've been talking p1sh ever since :D :D :D DuN is also bit more local, or at least REGIONALISED, and with that comes localised humour too.... How do you explain the Green Welly to a Londoner ????:D :D :D The green what, oh wellington... goodness, what does one do there !

Oh yes so I did, should have left you there, lol !

So far it appears the DuN is THE place to be... it's kind of like a Monte Carlo of the forums :D :D :D :D

there is a links section in the rather out of date main site but you can always start a thread in Ducati chat which can be made sticky, make you its got a big warning saying off topic posts get deleted though :)

Fully agree Rob, I use Ducatisti and chatted with Dan a lot when we both set our own sites up, we responded to the way the clubs ran their sites by doing what we thought those sites lacked, as it happens we went in different directions which i feel benefits more people. We also share similar things though, the run to the Peak District a few weeks ago of a good example of how it doesn't matter which club or forum one belongs to ultimately its about having fun on a bike.

I am very concious of the clique thing, it gets mentioned a lot by new members but its a difficult balancing act to keep banter going and letting new users feel part of it. In some ways I see upnorth as a lively bar, lots of noise when you go in but as you finally get your drink you feel part of it and a couple later you know it'll be a regular haunt  sorry too many years managing bars a previous life :)

Like the people and find myself agreeing with the opinions much more often than not, and know that when I don't I can say so.

That's the most important bit for me, I rarely intervene and hope people feel they can express an opinion, life is boring if we all become part of "the collective" and I'm usually one of the first to throw something in to provoke a responce :D

See my comments above. Please bear in mind there wasn't a grand plan to start upnorth as a forum, it came about as an addition to the main site which was meant to provide info on meets/events and socials up here , Scott and David (Burnie) saw my first site at Ducati Glasgow Xmas night out and said it would be good to have a way to communicate with each other so the forum got added to let us arrange those meets. The social side has always been what this is about, the fact that some here know and understand Ducati's is a bonus :)

Oh yes so I did, should have left you there, lol !

Don't worry, your card is marked forever :D

and there was me thinking the "mad" in your nickname was some reference to your driving:D :D :D

you do talk some pi$h though!!!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D

As I keep saying upnorth isn't about what i do, its a facility for its users to do what they want! One look at what gets achieved by the people who use it and you realise there is a lot of "putting back in" going on !! It still amazes me that a thread like the golf one ends up with 4 members here going to Gleneagles for a day!!, IMHO that kind of thing says a lot about the site and its users not what i do and i believe is what makes it a place everyone should feel welcome.

Says you eh Ed:rolleyes: at least he don't tell us all the time how wonderful his bike/s are all the time:laugh::D:laugh:

Can't believe you wrote that, I thought it was only PaulV who had it in for me.
Infamy, infamy, they've all get it in-f-me!!!!! ;)

...I do have a wonderful bike, for life, not just for Christmas! did I mention that? :p
