Any computer geniuses help me out here?

Normally when I shut my PC down just before it turns off it makes a clear beep/squeek sound. Ive been away for a week, and on return yesterday when transferring some photos to the c: drive it froze and required a restart. The restart froze halfway through and required another restart. The next couple of restartrs it kept going into a 'problem with one of your disks needs checking blah blah blah and going throught the bluescreen % scan but never getting to my desktop....so I gave up. This morning same thing but I cancelled the scan and its gone to my desktop and all is woorking fine....excpet every 10 mins or so it makes that beep/squeek sound....it never did before!!!

Is it about to die?

Please Help, I have a very important video editing task I need to do ASAP and can't have the computer crashing or dying!!

(PS- Operating on Windows XP)

There's a good chance that your HDD is on it's way out. Download a free disc cloning utility, buy a new HDD and clone your old to new. If you have to buy a bigger drive than your old one then you will have to activate the unused part of the drive using the disc management utility in XP.

I wouldn't wait until it fails.
 
Get yerself a nice big USB stick or drive and back up the contents if you value them.

If not, don't worry.

It is not a question of if drives fail, but when...

If you value stuff, back it up. Now.

There speaks someone who has loved & lost...

Ive had this before, in terms of losing data, so backup isnt an issue, its double/triple backed up!!!!

Issue is that I need to get this video editing stuff done ASAP and cant afford to be reloading programs if my computer dies!!!

Think Ive fixed the storage issue (it was a corruptinternal F: drive= now disconnected) but now my video editing software (pinnacle studio) wont recognise my DV Sony camera!!!
 
Possibly you knocked off drivers for your camera. If re-installing camera software doesn't help, you could always resort to downloading your video files first and then convert them into whatever pinnacle studio recognise. If you have pc that run 64 bit OS I could help you with by far more advanced video editing software than pinnacle

Thanks for the advice, but its a digital video Hi-8 camera that records on TAPE.
I know that sounds old fashioned but gives far superior quality for the length I get from a tape compared to stiorage device cameras.

Having chatted to a few people about this it looks like you are right about knocking out the drivers.
the reason I am so adament to stick with pinnacle is
a) ive invested so much in their previous programs (I started with pinnacle studio 8)
b) its a LOT of footage I have to condens into less than 1 hour, and I am pretty quick at doing all of the effects on pinnacle and I need to get this video edited quickly and cant afford to have to get used to another piece of softare...maybe after its done though...advice and help much appreciated..

No problem, just let me know. Does require 64 bit os and at least 2gb of ram
