Andy's old bike,unfortunately it has top end damage to one of the cylinders(not caused by Andy).Either new pistons and barrels or source a donor motor for it...things will be clearer when I've the engine out and opened.

Just something to occupy me through the kak winter weather,not going to burst a gut,can't throw fortunes at it either,nowt much else wrong apart from the engine,some cosmetics to sort mind you.
If the engine can be sorted out relatively painlessly then nae doubt I'll change my tune and it'll be all out to get it on the road for spring if not it'll be a slow burner .........or broken.

I'll sort the parrot for the team! I've woken up with many's a "garishly painted up old bird" in my Airforce days - the perils of getting p1shed at the NAAFI bop at Lossiemouth. When the fishing boats are oot so are the fishwives (or the "Buckie commandos" as they were known locally!!). Ahh.....sweet memories:D

Ahhhh, the good old days up there. I was at Kinloss myself. You canny beat Grab a Granny night at Joannas! :D

Not to mention "the clinic bus" to Raigmore Hospital that left on Wednesday afternoons, also picked up 'casualties' at Kinloss as well I believe! Not so sweet memories :(

My reference to the top end damage was the damage to the crankcase,not exactly top end sorry.
A lot depends on the state of the internals Derek,if they aren't too bad/serviceable I'll look out for a another case,but if another complete motor presents itself at a reasonable price I'd go down that route.
Forks,chain,sprockets,wheels,tyres,calipers,discs blah blah are all good.
As you know some work on a fairing or replace it,some cosmetic odds and sods,headlight subframe also needs replacing or fixed.
Like i said previously if it comes to it I'll break,for what i paid I'll more than get the cash back;)

I was going to make this some kind of novice strip down/rebuild blog type thing..loads of pics etc but the thread's already turned into a p1ss take.
 
Will be nae bother to get it welded,i would guess about half an hours work, if not, as we discussed Colin, get another case, etc, anyway off home for a couple of weeks in about 2 hours, leave you guys here freezing yer...:D have a nice new year :thumbs:
 
Couple of close ups of damage,looks shattered in behind starter,....which I'm trying to take off,but the alternator case needs to come off,which requires the side stand bracketry to come off but the two studs are knackered,cant get a key into them...joys..

appears to be seized,take the heads etc off,see whats salvagable...any advice greatly listened to.

........................and Colin you could have been blasting the backroad lanes around livingstone on my RS125 if you bought it instead!? The engines a tad easier to work on too:comp2: :D.

Hope you can get it sorted. It would be good to see it on the road again.

Are you interested in a hydraulic lift for your new projects,..I have 1 for sale,..only 1 year old in red looking for a quick sale £200.

I'd be interested in it but I'm seriously pushed for space in the garage. Can you tell me it's dimensions when it is down? How flat does it go?
 
head and barrel off..to my untrained eye the barrel and head looks ok

big end bolts sheared(i only see one so far),the lower half of the conrod is jammed under the crank,also damage to horizontal piston bore,both cases are smashed to hell.

"I'll get the other cylinder off shortly" aye that'll be right,the barrel is solid,got the fecker(remains of engine) on the garage floor trying desperately not to damage fins but the rubber mallet may soon be substituted :mad2:.
I'm guessing because the crank/rod and piston are jammed solid with the bit stuck underneath the crank I'm not getting even the minimal bit of give to jiggle the barrel off plus being the front cylinder its seen more weather on it to.

Aye its good seeing the bits in the flesh rather than just reading about them or seeing diagrams.
Now that the fears have been confirmed(well and truly:D) its just a matter of trying to salvage whatever i can from the motor.

Dims are 27" wide 86" long and sits 8" off the ground,..comes with small ramp & 2 ratchet straps.

The chassis that holds the top board on is 16" wide, so in affect the top board can be taken down to this,... I use an Aba stand its a bit wider to take it,..however if you were using axle stands then it can be cut down to whatever size is needed. ;)

Thanks David. If I'm going to go for it I will need to have a serious re-arrangement of the garage. The trouble is that the weather is crap just now and not really conducive to emptying the garage and fitting everything back in again to get more space. Hmm...
