Return of the Mac SS

Aye Alex, have heard of dying the plastics, but normally in a bucket of boiling water!! Hope your lass is still speaking, looks like a takeaway is the best option for the neet......

Chinese ordered - so much for a £2.50 fix!

On the plus side it's worked a treat :lol2: Sorry about the rubbish camera phone picture but you would actually think the belt covers were black to start with.

Top cheap mod - just don't do it at tea time. ;)

Yippee, the mock build is complete, and the 'to do' list is getting short.

  • fill, stopper, prep the bodywork & paint
  • timing belts
  • seat pad
  • finish plugging in indicators (5 mins worth)
  • MOT

Need to think about the seat pad a bit more, obvious choice is pre cut race foam, but wondering if I can get a pad made? Anyone know anyone?

Thanks, I'll get a seat made. Now making a cardboard template for the seat pad before cutting the alloy :thumbs:

Progress - only taken me 4 years......

The fairings are sprayed and ready to go on :thumbs:

Scotland wasn't built in a day! or something like that.

She'll make a wicked road bike - keep the pics coming please.

Its been a successful day;

  • belts changed
  • wiring completed - liking the indicators
  • battery charged
  • turned over and timing all ok

To do list is pretty short now;
  1. replace the rubberised clock mounts thats sheared (photo below)
  2. fit a seat pad
  3. MOT

I'll replace all three fixings for the clock, guessing its just the nature of vibrations from a twin that caused this.

I do love this bike, when I think back on the work I've done to it over the years it must be one of the highest spec 800's around. You just wouldn't notice without looking hard ;)

Dont want to sell it.

Will probably have to. :(

Might it be available for the MCN show?
I would need to know by tomorrow.
:thumbs:

Most bits ordered today, clocks tomorrow as DG parts closed on Monday. Want to MOT pronto so yes it'll be ready for March and if you want the bike it can be there..

I've got one daft wee issue :o When the bike was being raced I took the left hand switchgear off. Obviously its now re-fitted but guess what, daftie here doesn't remember what he did with the choke lever....... :doh:

Off course you can't buy a choke lever, the part number is the whole assembly.

I feel a garage upside down rumble coming on.........

Seat foam should arrive tomorrow;

Rear end LED tail light is looking pretty tidy

At some time before I owned the bike (pre 2009) Neil Hodgson signed the original tank. Hope it does't drop the value too much! :D

So 2021, several years down the line I've still got the SS ie and its never turned a wheel. Been to busy with other stuff, intending to get working on it in 2-3 months and this time its going to be a......... Cafe Racer - ish. Yes just like everybody else I'm going to take a retro bike and make it more retro!

Will stay in the Senna grey though with the Marchie wheels - love the colour and the red wheels but going for a different tail unit and a round headlight, possibly small bikini firing option rather than top fairing. Will possible try to mix match with early Monster stuff? Needs thought yet but will be a nice distraction as we come out of lockdown.
