Second Ducati lives again

After it sitting in my garage for two years I managed to get my SS750 running today, all it needed was a little fresh petrol.(And some swearing!):D
Wont be taking it out on the road just yet as it really needs a bit of a service and its belts changing but am tempted to book it in for an MOT- 'cause I'd be able to ride it there and back to Kilwinning to get it done.

Doesnt half smell when it got hot though, put that down to accumulated dust and stuff burning off the exhausts.

I wouldn't want to risk riding it after 2 yrs stood after reading about those pesky belts on another thread:eek:or is it a bevel??!!:)

General consensus is bike lying unused is far more likely to have belt issues than one used regularly. Like Steve says I wouldn't push your luck trying to run it if it has not been turned over for two years. When were the belts last done on it? Nice to know it will run without any major grief though.

The belts will definately need done,I'd originally bought this intending to do this stuff myself but I find I just dont have the time with young kids in the family.
The MOT garage is only few miles away so I dont really see a problem in the short time it would be running,no great loads would be placed on the motor.

The hissing noise you hear is 700 DuN members sucking air through their teeth!:D Hope you were touching wood when you typed this?:)

well the chance has already been taken starting it up , an extra mile or two couldn't possibly hurt , could it ~:?

I know somebody who has had his 888 stood for nearly 3 years and not changed his belts   ,his belts are nearly 4 years old.....
He just changed his oil and said it i'll be okay.Doesn't like spending money my mate, daft thing is he'll get away with it he's so jammy

When I bought this I intended to that, and more Jools, unfortunately our near miraculous levels of fertility in our forties means I barely get enough time to bite my own nails.
I wont even start working on it knowing full well I'll be interrupted shortly afterwards, then it may be weeks before I'll get another chance.:o

and I was never intending to run it like this,I'm just amazed it started again. Getting an MOT is a way of providing leverage to get time to work on it and get it on the road,if I wait and do the belts first....it'll be another two years.
If it blows on the way to the garage then so be it,I'll chuck it out.Its only taking up space as it is.:p

I was thinking to myself after your previous post you must have super enlarged man bits cos I wouldn't take the chance, but you don't have to brag about it!:p :D
