sprag clutch on 888 strada

Hello and good new year to all, I think my sprag clutch is on it's way out, very lasy to start and often doesn't catch.Question is what other models have same clutch , if any? any info about this would be welcomed.
 
The same sprag clutch is fitted to all the belt drive v-twins. There was a change when they moved to the 3-phase alternator but I think the clutch itself is the same. If you look on the parts interchangeability thread in the Tech section you will see there is a KTM that uses the same clutch at a fraction of the cost
I'll check it out when I get back to my computer.
 
The trouble with these spring shortening ideas though is that often the faces on the shaft bushing or the flywheel gear are damaged. Shortening the spring works, for a while, then it starts to slip again and you have to pull it all apart yet again. When a friend pulled his S4 apart to replace the sprag there was no decision - it fell out in a pile of bits of roller and metal shards. It's a wonder it had managed to turn the engine over at all.

Thanks from me as well - I need to sort the sprag clutch on my old 851 so that is really useful info.

I also need to replace some of the bearings on the cambelt rollers and I remember seeing some info about a source/spec for these but can not find it - any chance that you can point me in the right direction?

The cam belt rollers have a common bearing. I have the spec somewhere, just need to find it :comp2:

Just a thought, but have you checked your battery?

SKF 6003-2R51/C3 is the number for the cambelt rollers. you can get them from brammer bearings or any good bearing factor.

Hi Derek, have you weaned yourself off the drams yet? Myself and Brian tried a bearing from 900ss and found that it had a bigger flange on one side, could locate bearing into housing but bigger flange stopped fitting of circlip. so being tight fisted as I am, I took cams out of one race and put it in original, I'll let you know if it works. happy new year!!!!
