SS Help needed

Would anyone in the Glasgow area with a carb SS be willing to lend it to me for an afternoon? I've finally put my SS back together but am finding it difficult to route the wiring and there are a few loose wires that don't seem to go anywhere. Some of your favourite beverage will be given in return, and I'd be happy to give lifts to accomodate the loan. I guess 600,750 and 900 are pretty much identical when it comes to the electrics.

TIA

Iain,

A tip I can give you that'll save a lot of headache - when you are routing the part of the main loom from the multiconnector on the LH fairing subframe that crosses over to the right side of the bike. Do not take it behind cross member where the rect/reg is mounted. I did this because it was nice and neat and hid all the wires out of the way and then found there wasn't enough clearance to fit the air box  I had to undo the whole loom from the subframe back and start again :(
Other than that it's pretty straight forward just try to keep the wiring hidden behind the frame tubes where you can. The starter solenoid connection is a bit odd in that the lightweight wires that plug in to it come from the opposite side of the bike, below the battery. Once you have plugged it in you might want to put a cable tie around the connector to hold it in. The plug for the starter solenoid can have an irritating habit of falling out.
Watch out also for the ground cables. Make sure the battery earth cable is bolted to the frame and not the airbox bolt as mine was when I got it. Remember too that there is a short ground cable between the frame and the engine down beside the RH footrest hanger.

Hope to see the 900 on the road soon then :)

Cheers Derek, a font of useful info as usual. As you say it shouldn't be too difficult but it's so long since I took it apart I've forgotten where everything goes (spent 10 minutes wondering why the coils wouldn't fit behind the battery housing before realising they went between battery and filter!). In addition some of the little white collars that tell you what plugs into what are missing, plus there are some bare wires which I assume should have plugs on the end. Still it's looking nice imho; perhaps I'll get to the next masher!

OK Iain. If you are left wondering with any bits give me a shout.

You can have a look at mine if you want. The bike's at my dad's in ayr but i'm in glasgow most days for work. PM me for when suits if you still haven't sorted it out.

Thanks Nic and Gnasher.

Gnasher, if you could take some pics of the wiring routing on your ss that would be great. I'm particularly at sea with the cable routing from the coils to the engine and how the cable sit behind the headlight.

Thanks,

Iain C.

If you post me a pic of which area you want to deal with I'll go into the garage and photograph the same bit from the same angle on my SS if thats any help.
Failing that take a trip down here, only a short journey away on the coast and have a look yourself.
I'd run it up to you but its not taxed and has a warped disc I need to fix.
