Not sure if he was registered on here but he is known to at least one member I know of, I called in to say hello to someone i know this morning who as it turns out was a friend of his and had just been given the news. He leaves behind 2 children and a wife, a sad loss and sympathies to all who knew him, sounded like he was a real nice chap too...

That's where we were on the Masher "return home" leg. Two of them lost control. Coincidence that they both suffered machine failure? Unlikely. Coincidence that they crashed into each other through poor discipline? Possible. Coincidence that they were both taken out by an errant pair of motorists? Possible but not much. Coincidence they were doing what we all do - showing who's best? And getting themselves into trouble. More than likely. As discussed in the other thread today - don't give the authorities a chance to hammer us down. We are a very definable group on the road and will get targeted always. And I am not trying to be "holier than thou". I speed, I take chances. When I lose my license I won't bleat about it. If I lose my life through my own fault then so be it. If someone else causes it I hope they get well and truly @@@@ed by the powers that be. If someone I'm riding with has a crash I will learn from it. Sorry. If you want to be safe, stay home.

What's being a nice chap go to do with it? doesn't make it better or worse. or would it be better if he was a proper @@@@ who nobody liked? would it be OK if he was wifebeater to die that way? would he deserve it more then? or less? Sorry, but that statement has no value. oe is simply a "real nice chap" who couldn't control a bike at speed. or a guy who couldn't get round corners. or a @@@@ who couldn't see more than two hundred yards ahead.

RJ, the guys dead, and you have no idea why. Maybe you're right and they were racing and overcooked it on the corner, but maybe there was diesel on the road and they both hit it hence they both lost control.
Unless you were there & know exactly what happened, rather than speculation, I suggest you keep your sanctimonius opinions to yourself.

I was coming home from a long run on Monday just after the terrible accident. The police had shut the road and informed me that two bikes had collided and one was fatal. They had just left Inverarary and the lead guy braked, the person following then ran into him forcing him into a 4*4. My condelescenses to the family. The police along with road workers in attendance looked physically shaking by the incident especially as there's been a number of fatalities on this road lately.
Combining this with the fatality on the hizzy run what next ??

on Sunday I went for a long run as usual. Up the 83 around and back. Its a lovely road, but there are some proper corners that can cause you a little over exuberance.
What I did see though was on a corner, left hand towards Inveraray, some loggers ahd left colossal amounts of mud all over the road. I braked as close to it as possible then ran through it with my feet ready to go down, but luckily I made it through. I notified the Police at Inveraray and they sent someone to look at it.
Coincidence maybe, but sounds like it was in the right area.

No matter whether we ride bikes or drive cars or even cross the street, there will always be dangers outside of our control. However it is our own responsibility to proceed along a stretch of road with a degree of caution, responsibility and as much observation as humanly possible.
Sadly it would appear that after some kind of construction/ logging work had been done the road was left in poor condition together with a vehicle probably appproaching from the opposite direction too. Unfortunately we'll never know whether or how much caution was considered..
Its what brings out the police more and more sadly, to do what they do and nick us all at one time or another. We're somewhat easy pray with great sounding exhausts slightly smaller number plates to name but a few.
Its very saddening to hear that more riders have past away enjoying a rideout between friends and condolences to the family involved.
