Just visiting
looks like our kid has lost his first fight... indeed the poor lad got a right kicking from the speed triple (MCN this week).

Poorer on road performance for almost double the money.... sorry but I saw this coming. When will Ducati realise that brand loyalty can only go so far ??? I would be surprised if Ducati aren't also considering following in Yamahas footsteps and considering another price hike. I'll put money on the lights being on right now in the Bologna accounts office.

The speed triple is of course one seriously ugly machine, but I still think the fighter had so much MORE potential. It's no big secret that I ordered one and when I saw it in the flesh... it just didn't press the right buttons. We do all of course have differing tastes, thankfully, or we'd all be riding about on Fireblades.

Poor report on the Streetfighter, and probably unjustified, did MCN not rave about it a few short weeks ago ??? Maybe Triumph paid more advertising revenue this week ???

You pays your money and you takes your choice... but some times a lot of money.

As a Triumph owner I can tell you that those triples are seriously good engines and among the best for road use. My 955 will just about slay anything in a top gear roll on from 50-120, it will do 60mpg at 80-90mph and is utterly reliable.

I think the Speed Triple is good looking when the cans and rear plate hanger are dumped...arguably simple and easy mods to do probably costing a lot less that a set of Termis that just about every new Duke gets within weeks.

I'd buy another Triumph for sure. By comparison I think Ducatis are getting too expensive. I was toying with an 1198, but once I saw a 1098 in the flesh and then learnt of the price hike I swiftly changed my mind.

I just find MCN's reporting "erratic", a few weeks back the fighter was the best thing since sliced bread... now the bread's a bit mouldy...

They do have a point though re price.. it is overpriced, I'd have a 1198 over a SF anyday.

All bike publications are erratic, but I'd say the same about bikers and their behaviour so, one reflects the other. I recall your recent U-turn re. Donington ;)

How much is the SF?

It was not a U-turn...

I think you'll find that the Desmo has a particulary poor turning circle, it was actually a three point turn he did!

........MD - I think you'll find you ordered about 10! :D

Indeed I did, I hope they all don't come at once.... I have four Bayliss reps to pay for first. TWPD - I do more u-turns than a learner driver... and since changing my mind to go, I've sinced changed it back again, but only becuase I'll be in Boston that week.

...and personally I think it's absolutely brilliant that Triumph are making great bikes. We should support them. I'd be interested in a 1050 Daytona sports bike.

It was MCN?????

Must be true then!!!!:rolleyes::D

I dont give a @@@@ what the cocks at MCN think . I,m gonna get one hopefully. My mate has a sprint st & the finish is @@@@ & all the fastners are corroding at a rate of knots & he does nowhere near the miles i do on my 999

I think the article also said the trumpet was old and needed updating, sounds like most of the range tbh.

Went and saw the SF up close in DG last weekend and even had a seat on it. It reminded me of my old hyper but a bit heavier. I can't help but think it's pointless, with no wind protection, more power than you can use on a naked bike, daft brakes, daft suspension.

I reckon it'll be the biggest bag of giggles to come out of Bologna EVER. I can't wait to ride one

My 1098 is worried :lol2:

Paul from Italsport brought their demo to the M Battalion meeting last night, and a few of the lads had a go. They all came back grinning. I didn't have a go, cos if I liked it (which is likely), I'd have to sell at least one of the kids to buy it.

Samie had a go & is having another test ride this weekend. At the moment he's not buying cos he quite fancies keeping his licence.....

Also Gav (998gsb) had one from DM to go down to the Bristol show, and he was raving about it.

Yet my 6 yr old Triumph is spankers and the finish/build quality is excellent. How strange!

I've got a 93 Trident and its the longest i've ever owned one bike, had it 12 years now. It's a great solid bike and well made, it looks dated now (like me) and not worth much now(like me again):D but it's like an old friend and I dont think I'll get rid of it. And as I keep telling folks, there's no excuse for owning a jap bike now that Triumph make good bikes.

i quite like the triumphs especially the triples ( they make a nice noise) and if i had to buy something non ducati triumph would probably get my pennys, but have to say that mcn's reporting is always biased against ducati, mainly because ducati dont subsidise mcn like other brands. thats my tuppence worth there

BMW HP2 MegaMoto

No competition from Bologna, or anywhere for that matter.

Exclusive. Exquisite. Goes like the living God.

The thinking mans street fighter.;)

I looked at a Triumph Sprint and Tiger last year, raid the reviews thought they might be of interest but wasn't impressed by the overall finish, rough castings, cheap looking bits and not what I expected :( Surprised me really as the Thruxton was a bike I liked and thought well finished but with so much of their stuff made in Thailand now I wonder whether that has brought a change in attitude and more price led sourcing of parts?

I'm not convinced on the SF either but have already said that enough times :D

Reviews are written by individual testers with their individual criteria, one won't agree with another and I prefer to see reviews like that, if they all say the same thing I wonder about how impartial it is. I tend to find most get swayed by the launch then once they get a bike to test longer term find its problems so always expect a different opinion.

You've missed the part about it being the ugliest motorcycle on the planet though... looking cool must count for something

Absolutely... MCN, The "Private Eye" for the motorcycle industry. We had this conversation last night... The Streetfighter as Scott pointed out (I think) hasn't a great place... why buy a SF when you buy a Hyper so much cheaper.... why buy a SF when you buy a 1198 so much better. But you know what, it WILL sell well, people will buy it and LOVE IT - and that's why we all like different things.

One "forum member" even posted about a BMW Mega Moto - that proves there's no accounting for TASTE :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: Although I will concede it's built well...

Fergie you need to ride the KTM SUPERENDURO R it is the Daddy!

Re Triumphs, (for those of us not overly obsessed with size; there are some!!), the 675 Daytona is seriously good in both performance and looks IMO. Mind you I wouldnt swap my 748! :flash:

they tried it on the track and it was brilliant. Now they've tried it on the road it's still brilliant, but the triumph is a better allrounder?

I'm thinking, Hypermotard + rabies = Streetfighter

It's going to be an absolute hoot!! :lol2:

disagreeI think Hypermottard + Swine Flu = Streetfighter. I just think it's too extreme for a naked... But then again, being naked and extreme could indeed be fun... so I'm told.

TBH, I can't think of anything more frustrating than a naked sportsbike with a huge amount of power like the Streetfighter. You won't be able to cruise at any decent speed on it for long, wind pressure on the rider will knacker high speed handling and precision and, because of that, it will spend most of its time in the 3-5000rpm rev range.

Something with less power and more usable power will be far more rewarding and fun. Bikes like the SF just can't be ridden really hard.
