          Anyone thinking of taking the crossing from Newcastle to Amsterdam as their route into Europe should note that for the last three weeks everyone leaving the ferry on arrival in Amsterdam has been subject to a breathalyser test . Nothing wrong with that, as long as you don't get carried away with Holiday fever. It has to be said that the Dutch police are carrying this out in a friendly way , but it will be 500 Euro and a long wait till you pass on the dock side . DFDS don't give you any warning of this on the crossing ( probably to keep bar sales up ) . Anyway ...there you have it

They were doing this last year when we went on our trip to the ring, but only stopping for random testing. It was actually a van driver on the crossing that tipped us off about it.

I spent most of the night barfing after a dodgy seafood buffet so missed out on the excessive boozing!!

Just used it last weekend.....never saw a copper at the ferry port on the Dutch side but when we arrived at Assen campsite there was a whole army of police waiting with their measuring sticks.

Passe for me, different story if we had been tested first thing in the morning though! :o
