Got a bit confused while readin the MCN about Martin and Scott's bikes.
Now as the picture shows Martins bikes got 1198 stickers on the fairing but there saying it's a 1098R, but when you look at the engine specs it's fitted with an 1198 engine.
Now i may be daft as you all know but dosn't that make it an 1198 or am i just stupit:confused:

Martin is a women in a mans body, totally confused :D:D:D:D. WTF he put 1198 stickers on a 1098R mystifies me. Why buy a Sierra Cosworth and put 1.6L stickers on it... When the 1098R is the "DADDY" and still the current model I fail to see why it should be hidden as the "economy model".

The 1098R does of course have an 1198 engine, so technically it's a 1198 but it's still the 1098R, which is the current model.... don't worry about it, we're all confused to.

But to answer your question, it's a 1098R... well spotted by the way.

oh, and it's quicker than the Desmosedici, which I told them all it would be.... :D:D:D:D:D

Even though it was in Martin's Tricolore colours (looked very good by the way). I think he was conforming to current WSB paintjobs (to a degree). They are all 1098R's too, but have 1198 written on the side, so whats everyones problem? :dunno:

My small niggle is still the Ducati badge though, I think the Ducati Corse shield logo is still the most awesome 1 around and carries an Attitude/ Charactor about it. The Puma style is still taking its time to mellow on me....

Anyway its a great article and demonstrates that both bikes have both a dis & advantages about them, but yet aren't that far apart. As has been said before its really down to the owners preference what they prefer... Having never ridden a Desmo yet, the 1098R is far better than anything else I could possibly want to test. The looks that both bikes draw from a crowd is still an adrenelin rush, thats gives me both a wee smile & goose bumps all at the sametime.

to cover these two quotes - first paragraph, agree 100%, second paragraph agree 100% - sheesh that was easy

they aren't all 1098R's the factory bikes are F09 and tbh no-one know from what they are developed as the new 1198 used quite a bit of the technology in preperation for the new higher limits on homologation, they can't sell enough R's to meet this. at some point they will have to switch to an 1198 (model not capacity) as the 1098R homologation only lasts for a limited number of seasons. it don't make much difference as the WSB rules allow major changes to almost everything other than frame and crankcase so none of it resembles what you buy. And before ayone comments - its the same for the Japanese makers although none are quite as factory built as Ducati.

what really interests me is that Ducati pushed for the 1200cc capacity because the engines wouldn't last as 1000cc units, i now find out they can't get an engine through a weekend, they usually swap it out after practice as they've had to tune it another notch higher to compete with the il4. To me thats hardly development the likes of Yamaha have got increased power and reliability out of thesame cubes using technology, relying upon capacity will cost Ducati eventually, surprising given the work they do on the mgp bike where more from less has shown what they are good at.

It's a 1098R with a paintjob to pay homage to both the WSBK bike and the MotoGp machine.

The white on the side and on the underseat panels mimics the Xerox very closely.

The 1198 badge is exactly as seen on the Xerox.

The silver seat is a salute to the amazing design on the Mugello GP6 that Capirossi and Gibernau rode. I always wated a silver seat unit after that!

Quite simple really!

Won't be long before the toys get thrown from the pram, and they will threaten to quit WSB until they get the rules put upto 1400cc.
