I live in Runcorn cheshire and im so @@@@ed off with this bike ive only had it a week!!:( ive replaced the battery after the old one being flat, went out on the bike yesterday the thing conks out wont go again, been told it might be a regulator rectifier problem,(would that stop it from starting up though?)its sat in my shed looking sorry for its self,so i think im going to have it fixed but by who can anyone reccomend someone close to me?

Woods or Ducati Manchester will be your closest Ducati dealer, PM Martyn748 he's the manager at Ducati Manchester and can probably get you sorted quickly. Sorry, i don't know any independant Ducati mechanics around Chester but Freak, Lily or Padge might.

this article in the tech section has a bit of info and hopefully Derek will be along soon with his advice.

mmmmm.....buyer beware, if private sale. It can't be much, you'll soon sort it. Everybody puts a @@@@e battery in a vehicle when they sell it privately anyway.

If you've got a multimeter rev the bike to around 5K and measure the voltage at the battery should be around 15V from memory if so your rectifier is OK if not it's a good starting point.

Reading on the multi meter should be in the range 12.5 -14 volts, also check the liquid level in the battery, if it's down it will not hold a charge

Get a cable tie round that connector as it will vibrate loose again at some point, had this many years ago when I first got my 996 trailored it back to the dealers where it fired up first time, did this 3 times before they sourced this issue.

Fingers crossed that and the rectifier will sort everything so you can finally enjoy a classic sports bike, hope the previous owner coffed up some £££ for all the hassle

well i do get mates rates, but my 916 is always at the back of the queue while other paying stuff gets priority.
give him a call and ask him for his advice and what you want doing and get a rough quote from him, he's a good bloke and knows his stuff. i will say though if its road bikes they hold little interest for him and his skills and experience is in race bikes and the proper RS's so road fodder is pocket money i guess.
if you tell him i sent you (he knows me as neo or his mate with all the jap scrap like the RC30) and he will help out for sure and sort you out.
