LANZI GOES THIRD QUICKEST FOR DUCATI XEROX IN FRANCE, NEW CHAMPION BAYLISS
EIGHTH

Magny-Cours (France), Friday 6th October: The Ducati Xerox Team riders
placed third and eighth in Friday first qualifying for the final round of the
2006 World Superbike Championship at Magny-Cours in France.. Lorenzo Lanzi was third quickest in the one-hour session, recording a time of 1 minute 40.821 seconds, to line up on the provisional front row behind Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) and James Toseland (Honda), while newly-crowned champion Troy Bayliss was eighth fastest with a time of 1m41.006s. Troy and Lorenzo had a crash during the opening qualifying session but were both unhurt.

"This is my first time here in Magny-Cours and it's taken me a bit of
getting used to" declared Troy. "This morning we did a really good first session
to finish fourth, while this afternoon we went a bit faster but I had a crash at
the front, up at the top in the penultimate corner. We're struggling to find
exactly what I'm looking for at the moment and I may have missed out on putting in a good tyre towards the end. This weekend we're taking it how it goes, a bit like a test session really; you never know, we might learn something for next year! Saying all that I'm not far off anyway, Nori did one good lap, but I'm only two or three tenths off second place so I'm feeling OK".

"On my exit lap from the pits I was pushing quite hard because I was
following some other riders and I crashed more or less in the same corner as
Troy" commented Lorenzo. "I got onto the other bike and immediately set my best time which means that everything is OK. Now to remain in the top 3 this time will surely not be enough tomorrow because we're all close together. However I've seen that on race pace Toseland, Haga and myself are the fastest three so that's good. Let's see if we can improve a bit more tomorrow, and that will allow me to start from the front row of the grid".

TIMES: 1. Haga (Yamaha) 1m40.474; 2. Toseland (Honda) 1m40.734s; 3. Lanzi (Ducati Xerox) 1m40.821s; 4. Pitt (Yamaha) 1m40.872s; 5. Corser (Suzuki) 1m40.936s; 6. Kagayama (Suzuki) 1m40.950s; 7. Nieto (Kawasaki) 1m40. 954s; 8. Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) 1m41.006s; 9. Muggeridge (Honda) 1m41.044s; 10. Barros (Honda) 1m41.184s.

Guys,

Can we please remember to add SPOILER to the message title when posting racing results.

I had wanted to watch this later on without knowing the results, I only clicked on the thread as I thought there may have been TV timings, anything other than the results.

Purdy please

This qualifying not results which will happen on Sunday! The header does say Qualifying so if you don't want to know the results of the qualifying then you don't read the post!!! :)

It doesn't say it contains any results though, and I'm also looking forward to watching those without reading it here first.

Is it that hard to type SPOILER in the heading?

That's what the TV guide is for.

I had hoped that would have been part of the content of this thread instead of the results since there was no SPOILER contained in the heading.

you're in a minority here, shouldn't have posted without "spoiler" as part of the header. We can't all be up at one in the morning to watch!

I wasn't watching it at 1 in the morning, all I did was copy the post from the DOC list via Jilly Penegar. I didn't realise that qualifying was so exciting and that people didn't want to know the grid positions until the start of the race tomorrow. FFS if you see a heading that says 'WSB Qualifying' how on earth would you not expect it to have the results of the qualifying there? Is it really that important? It's not exactly the result of the race is it!

If it's not that exciting, why do you watch it? Of course it is, it tells you so much more about the event. And you should still have mentioned that it was a spoiler! Sorry.

Thanks Steve! I hope you have not read the above, thus spoiling the eurocr4p coverage! Their coverage really P***** me off the way they put adverts for poxy CD's and non motorsport related adverts a couple of times during the live race only to hear that we have missed something in the race. On principal I am not going to buy or use anything advertised during these races!

Bayliss Shrugs Off Injuries

BAYLISS SHRUGS OFF INJURIES TO TAKE SUPERPOLE IN WET CONDITIONS AT VALENCIA

Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) shrugged off his recent spate of injuries to take his fifteenth career pole position and third of the year in four races. Despite a lengthy excursion into the gravel during Superpole, the Australian found the damp conditions to be to his advantage as he took the top slot from the early pace-setter Ruben Xaus (Ducati). The final two positions on the front row went to the surprise of the day, Josh Brookes and Troy Corser, but few riders completed their full quota of laps, preferring not to risk everything on the wet Valencia track surface.

“I’m not going to dwell on my injuries because I’ve had enough time to get better” declared Troy. “I’ve come here feeling quite good and I was immediately quite happy with the way I felt on the bike considering my condition. The situation seems to be back to normal and the team and I are happy with the way things have gone. I think for anyone to ride around here in the rain it’s pretty dangerous and when I saw Ruben’s lap time I knew it was quite fast and that I would have to put my heart in my mouth to beat it. I came out of Superpole in one piece and hopefully we’ll get a dry race tomorrow. I’m also really happy to see Ruben back up here with me as we were team-mates in the past. I know what he’s capable of and I’m sure he’s going to stick his head in there tomorrow”.

Lorenzo Lanzi was quickest in the wet final free practice session for the Ducati Xerox Team and then posted sixth quickest time in Superpole, just a fraction behind championship leader James Toseland.

“I am quite pleased because I found the right feeling in the wet and in the free practice before Superpole I was the quickest” commented Lorenzo. “During Superpole, we waited a bit too long before going out onto the track, the riders ahead of me all went in before me and all improved their time. When I went in however, a few drops of rain came down and I was unable to improve. I feel OK for tomorrow and I am sure there will be two great races, either in wet or dry conditions ".
