@Noobie, did you have your Great Danes from puppies ?

Wondering if they are normally laid back (for a puppy anyway).

Used to dogs, especially puppies, that burst with excitement if they haven’t seen you for a while.
Was out all day today and when I got back all he did was lift his head up, look at me, and go back to sleep. 😂

Sorry @Alan Williams, l've just seen this.

The first Dane was a dog from dogs trust. Apparently the chap was an elderly breeder, died and left mum and her recent litter needing homes. We saw the entire litter and chose the one who looked like he had just smoked a joint. He was a puppy.

The second was a blue dane bitch puppy from a breeder near Colchester way. She was an absolute arsehole of a dog from the first day till the last, quite destructive too.

The dog was as you mentioned, would charge down the beach like a big galloping dollop of blancmonge and when we got home and for some hours later, it was like he had been on the ganja again.

I know they have a reputation for being laid back, and not liking being left alone. We have two other dogs and on the rare occasion he has been left has been ok.

Having to watch him around food at the moment though, he hasn’t tried to take food off our plates but has a damn good look.
Hoping he doesn’t end up like our springer was around food, he would take anything from anyone. We gave up all the training methods suggested and he had to be in another room while people ate. Bloody lovely dog otherwise though.

Wait till he gets to kitchen worktop height for his head. Ours was like a dyson on speed. We soon learnt the benefits of a pantry and wall units.

The male dog was a year old and never had an issue being left alone for a couple of hours. The bitch, destroyed the dogs sofa in an afternoon.
