They were actually quite competetive price wise to buy against an LC which if bought standard needed a few hundred quid then spending on it to turn it into a "proddy racer"
I paid £900 for my 350F. The down side to a TZ was/is new rings every 100 miles, pistons at 200 to 300 and around 500 for a crankshaft if you were lucky. Usually something would break mid season and take most of the engine with it resulting in a full rebuild in double quick time to make the next meeting. I did it one week, blowing up on a Weds practice session at Mallory which ended up with me stripping the motor at the circuit before we left and going straight down to the "parts man" in E London that evening to get a next day crank rebuild, pistons, rings, gaskets and seals all collected Thurs evening then back for a rebuild session to get the bike ready to load up on Friday and head back up to Mallory for the Sat morning. Did a similar thing with a TZ750 once as well which involved taking both cranks down to the rebuilder who stripped and re assembled them in front of me while I waited, then back home for a marathon spanner session. Oddly, I used to really enjoy all the mechanicing side of it, sometimes more than the actual racing but the costs could be truly eye watering.
I hope you've written them all down. The world is changing so fast that some of our antics will not seem possible to future generations. So many great memories.
Some people landed on the moon but didn't write down how so they are now not believed by someI hope you've written them all down. The world is changing so fast that some of our antics will not seem possible to future generations.

It has fans in the back like rocketsA good looking bike though, if you took a hacksaw to the last 8 inches of can.
I had an 1130 Trek in those colours a few years ago. It never went wrong, not even a tiny bit. Nice bike but sans the fantastic rear mounted fans of the Tornado. Library pic below as I can`t find any of my one.And they'll never go wrong![]()
