What have you done on your bike today?

I had to stick a legal plate over my usual one earlier in the year, just with a couple of stick tabs.

Forgot about it, and went for a ride - never seen it since. Pisses me off because I'll have to buy a new, legal plate for the MOT next year.
We don't get to faff about with our plates here. They are a stamped aluminium type and if you lose it you get a new one with a different number. Unless it is a personalised plate, in which case you would have to order and wait for it. And it would be pricey I bet

It was the same number, just on a larger, legal style plate.
We can buy a plate online to whatever style and size you want. But for the annual MOT we need a legal plate. When I bought the bike I bought a more aesthetically pleasing version as becomes the Speedie, and obviously still had the big ugly one it came with.
My normally lenient MOT guy said it might be a problem, so I got the original one and stuck it on, and my MOT guy was happy again.

So I guess your number plates are issued to the person and not the bike?

Yeah I am familiar with how it works in the UK. And no, the plates are issued to the bike with the exception of personalized plates which can be transferred from one bike to another, or car, and can also be transferred to a new owner of the plate. I had to get new plate for my Laverda when in the UK as it was delaminating or similar…

Todays work completed.....winter tyres back on. Replaced TP sensor on the RSV4 and re-calibrated. Upped the security a little bit and fitted a motion sensing outside light that points down over the front garage door.

Tomorrows work will be round my mates house sorting out some issues on his RSVR.

Had a great couple of hours out this afternoon; a bit of bimbling, and bit of razzing.
I stopped at one point to watch a buzzard eating something about 30’ into a field.

I was turning round at a usual spot when I noticed the local sky divers had jumped, so I raced the plane back to get a photo of it as it comes in to land. It’s about 3 miles from where I was.

First pic you can see it if you zoom in - it comes down about 45 degrees and banks to get on line

Buzzard eating a deer carcase deposited by aliens i guess. No other explanation.

What a day...started off at my mates house to do some work on his RSVR....

1. Fitted replacement tank - there was lot more fuel in there than he thought and we didnt room to store it all...so stored some on the floor.
2. Replaced Reg/rec with Ultimate rectifier - test and working.
3. Replaced leaking clutch slave and bled. All good.

So, we thought it would be a good idea to go for a short ride (Bristol out to Chippenham) to get a cuppa and a bit of cake. We left but not for long....

His conked out so we were stuck on the side of the road on a dual carriageway somewhere just out of Chippenham. Looks like the fuel pump had given out....it primed, ran for a bit then conked out. My mate was kinda at his wits end...weve been through a shopping list of upgrades and replacements and ironically that was last on the list...

He kinda thought it was hopeless and we were stuck so i got him to ride the zed and cover me from behind....after a couple of junctions i had a system....

Standing start....start the bike get up to as fast as i can....60 - 70ish....cruise for about 30 - 60 seconds, engine dies, start to slow down and as i slow down, knock it down a gear at a time then down to about 10-15mph find neutral, ignition on, start the bike and do it all again....made it back from Chippenham.

I got back a lot later than i expected to so, down in the garden finish off some garden work, then out with no2 son for a 30min driving lesson then back in.

Yey me.

That’s exactly how I got the 35 miles back from
My lads one Friday night about 3 months ago.
Also the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with every possible error message one after the other.
That was the exhaust servo motor. Took that off and it’s been fine since.

Yeah - mixed in with him being very Bi-Polar its a tough thing to juggle....if he looses it y'kinda have to think... "its not him...its just something else taking over for the moment!!" although i will happily admit hes getting better and i expected a lot more of a meltdown. So i see that as a win in itself.

The coastal end of Bridport is West Bay. It is geared towards bikers. I wouldn’t want to live there but if you have the money there are some fantastic places nearby.
A regular haunt of mine when I lived in Dorset. Had (still have) some great friends I got to know at West Bay. We'd meet up and might ride all over the place from Cornwall to the Cotswolds on a good day. I miss em. Hope all the old gang are still going strong.

Went for a bimble out to Matlock this morning with my son & one of my neighbours. We'd figured as the weather was forecast to be half decent we'd make the most of it.
It was a bit cold at first, but by the time we'd arrived at Matlock it had warmed up (y)

The place seemed busy, but although parking was at a premium, bike numbers seemed a bit lower than usual. There were a few interesting bikes though, this is my neighbour's Monster, my son's Panigale & my RS.

Lyme Regis is nicer. Beamister is ok but more inland - what you looking for ? Right on the coast or inland a bit, busy or a bit more rural?
Thank you, Lyme Regis is maybe a bit to busy for us in the summer, so is West bay, the attraction for us at Bridport is that it’s only minutes from the coast but just that bit quieter, it’s a difficult balance, 👍

Sweltering in West Bay but managed to park up & grab a few chips. Must have ridden two miles of lanes that must have a cows through there ab hour before. I’m not even sure how cows can keep shitting View attachment 172162View attachment 172163for two miles 🤔😛. Got home and washed the bikes 😀
Stunning day, we did hit West Bay at 9 am yesterday before the crowds arrived, great place, the sea was so calm, like a pond👍

My pick of the little coastal spots west of West Bay would be Seatown. It's popular and only accessed by a narrow lane from Chideock with limited parking. But it's far less busy than West Bay, Lyme Regis or Charmouth because there's nothing there but a pub and the beach. But if you live nearby and can get there early to beat the crowds it's a lovely beach which becomes almost deserted the further west you walk along the shore.
Even as inland as Beaminster you're not far from the sea. The only drawback to coastal west Dorset is that the A35 gets extremely busy in summer, often gridlocked at regular choke points like Chideock on weekends and bank holidays. South of the A35 it's just tiny hamlets and narrow lanes. Lovely and peaceful but you can't get anywhere without using the A35. At least to the north towards Broadwindsor, Beaminster and the Marshwood Vale (lovely area) you have options for days out that avoid traffic. That area of west Dorset and east Devon also has some fabulous back roads for biking once you've learned the lie of the land.

Somewhere in the Marshwood Vale would be my pick. It's beautiful, peaceful countryside, largely overlooked by the tourist hordes rushing westwards to south Devon and Cornwall, you're still only 20 minutes or so from the coast. And you have the option of shopping in relatively quiet Axminster without using the A35.

Today i went for a ride out to Salisbury and while i was there i went into the Vodafone shop because along with my old laptop packing up so had to get a new one my phone decided to die. I had to get a new phone, i ended up getting an upgrade from the dead Sumsung S20 to an upgraded S26FE because it was on offer. It's a bit more to pay monthly but not by much, the girl looked for a not so good one and it turned out to be more expensive!!🤪
Anyway after that i rode home with a mandatory stop as another cord came out of the same hole in the rear tyre. I'm waiting to take delivery of the mushroom type tyre plug, meant to be here tomorrow.
Got home and took the sim out of my old phone and went to put it in the new one and you guessed it it doesn't fit it's bigger than the S26!!:ROFLMAO:
So tomorrow i'm going up to Vodafone Winchester to get them to sort it out, weathers ok tomorrow and Wednesday looks to be a wash out so needs sorting.
Oh yeah my Granddaughter is 1 today.🥳🎉

Bridport was very busy on Sunday - id deffo go 5/10 miles inland if you can unless you’re set on spitting distance! Some lovely villages north of that area if you keep away from the A35 as your only route out, as Gimlet said, you’ll be ok!

A year already - that’s gone quick!

Was wondering why you’d been absent after your last posts…glad you’re ok and it’s just the tech letting you down 👍
