AI & the Future ............. What on Earth does it Hold for us All ?!!

So, after talking to one of the apprentices at work the other week it had me thinking the above & I'm seriously worried for our future ! By "our" I mean the whole world too, not just mine, my kids or those in some unknown land !!

We were talking about AI generated videos & said apprentice couldn't understand how anything bad could come of it.
The video he'd, with some of his mates had generated showed one of his fellow colleagues, who has a striking resemblance to Harry potter, flying around the hangar I was working in, on a broomstick, in between various planes.
Clearly AI generated, but only because we know nobody can fly on a broom stick yet, ........ can they ?!

Anyway, after expressing my view that one day in the future a World War will be started because of something similar AI generated he told me everybody would know it was AI generated. Really ?
I said if Trump or Putin, or some other well known, powerful individual, produced an AI video condemning a third party of some atrocity, would the world know it was bollocks or could it be taken for gospel & war ensue ?
I could well believe the latter or am I just a worrying old fart ?

Another unrelated or is it related (?) thing is, how we are all these days having to remember more & more complex passwords !
Once upon a time a four-pin number was enough, nowadays we need passwords that have numbers, upper & lower case letters AND "special characters ! All for an ever increasing number of companies/day to day life essentials like the local doctor/etc/etc.
How the hell do we remember all these different passwords & who they are for ?!!!

Worrying times ahead I feel !! OR is it just me being an idiot ?!!

Not just you thinking about this at our kind of age but the younger folk who will embrace it, imo that's the worrying bit!!
As for passwords i just wright mine down as my sister doesn't use computers so i'm pretty safe.:)

You are not supposed to remember them! You either write them down or get your key chain to remember them. Which, of course makes it very much easier for the ne’er do wells to access your data.

Where will you get your news? (or do you intend to shut yourself off from the rest of the world (not that that is a bad thing).
I don't listen to a TV or radio, I don't have a newspaper and I don't miss them.
I don't really care about the news. I can't influence events so why subject myself to the misery drip-feed?

I not longer read newspapers. I used to get the Telegraph most days but now it's gone up to £4 a day and £4.50 on Saturdays they can keep it.

I can still get Freeview on the TV until the government turns it off, then I've got masses of dvds and there must be 300+ books in the house I've yet to get round to reading.

I'll be 60 in April. I seem to be having a continuous stream of health problems, so realistically I'll be dead inside 20 years. TBH, that feels like plenty. This country will be a truly vile shithole by then and the opportunity to escape has gone so I'm just going to try and make my remaining time my own, press unsubscribe and live in my own bubble.

Before my internet goes off in September I'm going to book a fly fishing lesson and get myself kitted out for the start of the season in March when my hedging finishes. The Derwent reservoir is within walking distance.
If the pain in my bones and joints doesn't clear up (and it's worse this morning) I may even get rid of the bikes. I was going for a ride today but TBH I'm not sure I can.

I just refuse to use it point plank in any situation... on the Ryanair app I ask it to get rid of itself off my screen 👀 if the majority done the same it would work but the majority won't 👀

I had a recent interaction with Groupon’s AI customer service (the only way to contact them now). I resorted to typing ‘I need to correspond with a real person’ as the AI was just going around in circles. On the 3rd request it put me through to one of their customer service agents. They sorted the issue in two minutes.

I've used that tactic a lot with 'I need to speak to someone' seems to work so far 👀

IT for 30 years. Working currently in R&D. I need to be learning as much myself as i possibly can - even though im on my way to 60. I dont use it at work for anything really....ive used it at home twice on my home assistant server to build an automation to which i can then examine the yaml file and adjust it....thats about it....i did see someone post (maybe on here) "ai wont take your job, someone whose using ai will take your job" - well, whatabout when theres no ai for whatever reason that said person who was using it is going to be out in the cold pretty quick....all it needs is one sneeze out on the net and your all in the dark...

Factor in literally all of the big boys as the moment circle jerking each other financially - when the first one runs for the door itll all come crashing down...that much is inevitable.

I was watching a lad this morning on you tube while i was exercising who said "just fuckin throw Sam Altman in jail and work out the charges later"....which i totally agree with.

First, £4 for a newspaper!!! Fucking hell!

Second, if your joints are hurting, try cutting out all fruit and veg for 4-6 weeks - see if that helps.

I stopped eating bread and my arthritis has reduced substantially. Still eating loads of fruit and veg , definitely the bread that makes it worse for me.
I've been eating fruit and veg since I wad weaned and had no problems up until week ago.
I stopped eating bread, along with all refined carbs about three years ago. I do very occaisionally make my own soda bread from spelt flower but not very often.
I've been told to have blood tests to see if I've got a mineral or vitamin deficiency which is possible since furing the hot spell I haven't been eating very much at all.

I'd be surprised if I don't develop arthritis at some point as I'm nearly 60 and my mother's side of the family were riddled with it.

My mother`s side is also the one with arthritis. So far it has just affected my fingers but interestingly since cutting out the bread the swollen joints have practically gone back to to normal . I`ve never liked pasta or rice , Thai sticky rice aside, and I`ve pretty much swapped entirely from potato to sweet potato.

I did cut out potatoes as well but slowly started eating them again, though really only as roasties with my Sunday lunch. At first I roasted pumkin instead. Might go back to trying that. The trick is finding the right varieties that will crisp up in the skin instead of collapsing to mush. And they're seasonal of course.

I was thinking I've derailed the thread somewhat with my ailments, but then again given that all GP appointments will soon be AI and we'll be largely left to diagnose ourselves perhaps it is relevent.
