We have these guys happening at our place at the moment. We get them every year but this year there seems to be more of them. They are absolutely beautiful, but the iridescence seems to disappear from their wings when they die. They are quite big and flutter at the windows when they come inside. They are easily handled back to outside tho… I have used a number 7 egg for scale, also, I have quite big hands and they seem to take up most of it…
I don't like insects and flies in particular, but I can watch dragonflies for ages. There's a pond on a walk we used to take the kids when they were young - there were all sorts of brightly coloured ones - stunning to watch.
