Don’t forget the espadrilles.
Lemmy, Bruce Dickinson, Eddie Kid, Evil Knievel - you must have been frequenting gay barsNot round here. you'd be walking very gingerly if you'd turned up at the local with tassels.
Brighton also? Not where I lived. The only tassels I saw in the '80's were round the top of purple cowboy boots worn by middle aged women on Saturday nights in the village social club. They invariably lived in tied farm cottages or council houses. They would put Chrystal Chandelier on the juke box and sit there fortifying themselves with half a lager and lime and a bag of cheese and onion crisps with a pickled egg in it. They would have umpteen kids. The boys looked like crowd extras from the film Deliverance; the girls would all be pregnant by the age of 15. They were always married to a fat man with muttonchop whiskers who worked as the dairyman on a local farm, dressed like Elvis and enjoyed country and western music and banger racing.
Not really my definition of "cool". Then or now..
Brighton also

Went there once (Brighton, not a gay bar) in 1980 when I was about 13 years old. A schoolmate's Nan lived in Hove and he bigged the place up like it was the most exciting place on the world packed with hot chicks. It wasn't. It was a shithole and I couldn't wait to get back to the clean and green countryside.Never been to Brighton or any gay bars.
The place was shabby, down at heel and generally rain-soaked. At least two 13 year olds could wander about the streets by themselves back then without getting killed or raped, I suppose, but that was about all the place had going for it. Never been back, never will.
Sounds like Blackpool.
It’s still a shit hole today, no idea why people wax lyrical about it.Went there once (Brighton, not a gay bar) in 1980 when I was about 13 years old. There was nothing to do except shove coins into slot machines or sit on the back of a cinema smoking fags and watching some shite - North Sea Hijack was one film I recall.
