Remembering Marco Simoncelli on what could have been his 38th Birthday today, 20th January.
Marco Simoncelli tragically lost his life on October 23rd, 2011, at the Sepang circuit following a crash on the second lap of the MotoGP race. The Italian rider had dazzled the World Championship paddock with his charisma, ability and racing style, and was a World Champion having taken the 250cc title in 2008, a title he narrowly missed out on defending in 2009.
Arriving in the premier class in 2010, his progress was rapid and before his untimely death he had already taken two premier class podiums and two poles in a strong second MotoGP campaign. Marco will be greatly missed by all those involved in MotoGP, and will forever be remembered as one of the Championship’s great characters and talents.
"Super Sic" had 151 races, 15 pole positions, 29 podiums, and 14 victories, 2 in 125cc, 1 in 2004 and 1 in 2005, and 12 victories in 250cc, 6 in 2008 and 6 in 2009.

It was tragic loosing Marco and i was watching that race live on TV, it's always terrible when a rider passes away!!
I was and many others where big fans of him, i got to see him race at Donington with my son racing the 250s in 2008!! I had a photo of him on the podium but i lost it and i think he came second
.I went over to my dads after to see my son who i would have on the Sundays because of my job (nights at Asda) when i told him his face said it all.

Kenny Irons
Bedfordshire rider Kenny Irons was killed on the warm-up lap of the Shell Oil British Formula One TT race at Cadwell Park on Sunday, 26 June 1988. Irons was only 27.
The accident happened when the motorcycle of fellow British rider Keith Huewen developed a misfire and slowed exiting Charlies bend onto Park Straight. Irons' red and white Honda #0 hit the back of Huewen's, with Kenny being thrown off and tumbling down the side of track into the bottom of the dip on the straight. Irons' machine slid up the track out of harms way. Some of the following riders were involved in the mishap, one of them, Mark Phillips from Chelmsford, Essex, dropped his machine as bunching riders tried to slow. Phillips' bike then slid into Kenny Irons at quite some speed, causing him fateful injuries.
The accident was watched by thousands of television vieuwers. It is believed Kenny Irons was still alive when taken to Louth Hospital, other sources stated he died at the scene. Both Huewen and Phillips escaped injury. One of the other riders involved in the crash was Phil Mellor who would lose his life one year later, during the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy.
