Without a doubt, the worst part of a beam to remove, ............ if you really really really have to cut through a beam.
The centre? But that is the soft bit, surely?
The bottom of a simply supported beam is in tension, and the top in compression. Cut through the reinforcement at the bottom and you're Guinessed!
The reason why plumbers notch the top of joists as long as the don't go nuts its OK.... they do go nuts on a regular basis unfortunately
