What can you recommend watching?

I've had a Vietnam thing going recently and have most the films that I want on disk. One that I haven't yet watched (because my mp4 file may be corrupt) is "The Killing Fields" but Amazon have it and as a subscriber to Prime, I could watch it whilst I was away.

Very impressed with it.

Haven’t seen it, but thought it was about Pol Pot’s reign in Cambodia?

It is mainly about Cambodia and American lying about not bombing the place whilst bombing the fook out of it! The two main characters were originally in Vietnam - one a reporter for the New York Times (I think it was) and the other a Vietnamese interpreter for him. When the Americans pulled out of Vietnam, they went to Cambodia and got caught up in the Khmer Rouge war there.

If you liked that you may like Swimming to Cambodia
The protagonist ponders over his experiences and exploits from during the making of the film 'The Killing Fields'. He also provides an insight on the events occurring in Cambodia at that time.

It doesn't seem to be available in the UK, except on DVD, so I'll get the DVD.

I have ordered the DVD. For reasons beyond me, it does not seem to be available to view on Prime in the UK. No matter as I can 'mp4' it when it comes, if I want to watch it in bed OR actually watch the DVD in my lounge - very old school!

As I cannot be bothered with air travel and found out that I can take cruise ships from Portbury dock, that means that I could taxi it there from home, Iceland looks a possible, when I finally get my compensation money. Going to the pub for lunch and talking to people there, gets very expensive! And I only drunk three pints with my meal!

Iceland is somewhere that I have never been to and I was trying to avoid airport scanners, but I am told that cruise ships do the same shit. Why the fook would you book a cruise to Iceland and then smuggle a bomb on board in order to blow up the ship?

I cannot make up my mind who is stranger - a potential bomber booking their expensive cruise in order to blow up the ship, or management who truly believe that this is a real possibility!

Ive had a brief look at the website for Ambassador Lines who use Portbury dock. There were notes about dinner: "Gentlemen do no have to wear a dinner suit, but may be less formal - after all, go mad, as you are on holiday! - so wearing a lounge suit for dinner is acceptable (just about, providing you don't mind knobs looking down on you working class scum!)" WTF!!!!

I don't need to spend thousands of my money on this shit, so that is the idea canned for the time being.

I don't fancy having to go on my hands and knees to be allowed the money by the Court of Protection to do this kindof shit!

Of course, but you may just have a concealed weapon and want to take out a few puffins!

Plan B

Go to Plymouth and then to Spain. No ice and even less funny handshakes! But best of all, I get to leave my dinner suit at home to not mix with the penguins!

Definitely the best option! The only people they were pulling into the customs check were people in shiny Range Rovers and sports cars - not a metal detector in sight (although I have seen sniffer dogs at the ports)

I have no objection to dogs sniffing me! My f*cked up left leg seems to fascinate them with its smell!

I have done Brittany ferries from Plymouth before on a motorbike, but this time I think that I will just go as a foot passenger. I can take a train to Plymouth quite easily and will probably go the day before and have a night in Plymouth. I just had a quick look and the prices look very reasonable and certainly not in the thousands league for the penguin boats! I could cheerfully spend a week in Spain before coming back the same way.

I think that the conclusion is that cruising is just not for me. Taking a ferry to Spain is more my thing!

We did see Minky whales and lots of dolphins on a June sailing to Santander so you never know! Take your binoculars just in case....

I have been looking into trains to Plymouth, just out of interest. If I go from Patchway station then I can do it without a change. Trains are about every hour, so that's OK - provided that between now and when I go, GWR do not implement their usual trick of cancelling everything, for no better reason then they think it is funny. But this is a train from Wales, and even GWR get scared of upsetting the Welsh!

Arrived just now. Now trying to remember how I copied stuff from DVD to files:unsure: whilst getting increasingly pissed off about my case! You remember: the one where I "won" a good stash, but unlikely to ever see it. Planning the trip to Spain got me thinking about money (coz I'll need some) and I remember the hassle of putting in expense claims for travel by taxi and train when my driving license was taken away, And then buying another car after I had to give back my old one. All that alone would pay to go to 🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸Spain.

Just getting those expenses back would pay for going to Spain, but it won't be this year, if ever at all!

And I won! Losing would of been so much worse - err how:unsure:?

I converted all of "Lost" from DVD to mp4 but I can't remember which software I used. I've got a few candidates on my PC, but none are any help - unless I want just the audio!

It's simple, but my internet searching only reveals it to be the most difficult and expensive thing known to man!!!

Anyone using any good software for Windows - just to convert a DVD to mp4?
