Your Ideal (or fantasy ✨) Homes 🏡

Two things I found out when moving to a semi isolated community;

(1) Any trades that hear a southern accent in rural land seem to have their bills hiked up for work

(2) Analogy so don't go ape. Imagine your are a one legged jewish black man turning up to a kkk event in Alabama with your boyfriend and you drove there in a prius whilst wearing a hilary clinton t shirt. That's the type of hostility/distrust and dislike that some rural communities have on "outsiders" moving in.

I remember making a joke in a Wisbech pub about the rise in heating oil prices and said to a buddy, "I suppose I'll have to fit a camera near the oil tank before the pikey's visit on the rob". Not particulary loud but the pub went quiet. To be fair, I did ask if anyone installed security camera's for a living? only for someone in the crowd to shout "not me, but I've taken a few down" which made the pikeys locals chuckle.
Wisbech and community you say 🤔🤣

Haven't had any of that where I've moved to. Though rather than trades charging me more because I'm an outsider I have found the reverse with difficultly getting work myself with local people as I'm an unknown quantity. Initially when I moved here the only jobs I got was from other incomers with local trades able to charge more than I could.

On a personal level I've fitted in just fine and made loads of friends. I think wherever you go, if you insist on ramming your opinions/politics/identity issues down people's throats they'll take against you.

Where I moved from in Dorset it was the other way round with born and bred locals like myself being the odd ones out. The majority of people locally were incomers and many tended to look down their noses at indigenous villagers assuming they'd be rural thickos.

At £13.5 million, under Labour's proposed property tax you'd be paying an annual charge to the government of 0.48% of the property's value, plus a £7500 council tax surcharge.
That works out at £72,000 a year just for the privilege of living in your own house. Basically it's to all intents and purposes a leasehold property which you're renting off the government, and you will not be allowed to keep any profits if you sell nor pass it on to your descendants without what is effectively a rental contract passing to them in the form of inheritance tax - which they will have to pay up front.
That's why there are so many of these high value properties coming on the market right now. Think of the vast amount of employment that was created in building that house. Why would anyone bother to make such an investment again?
Our country is turning into Zimbabwe.
