Sooooo.... some time last week? I went down to the waterfall to take some pics of the pump box we put in, from the bottom. The waterfall is about 8-10 foot high..
While I was down there I decided to follow the stream down stream to our boundary ( bout 150 mtrs) then walked up the hill to our back fence (bout another 100 mtrs) then back up the stream till just before the waterfall where it branches off to a smaller water fall and continues up into our valley basin (150 mtrs ish) then I walked up the valley which is steep as fuck.. 35-60 degrees.. hands and knees stuff in places.
I probably covered about 2 km in total but it took me 2 hours as its hard going and dense bush in places...
Took a few days to recover.

The blue tank thing is part of the old pump system and will be gone real soon as will all the ugly pipes.
Anyhu, next up is the boundary fence at the river, then I turned right to go up to the back fence so should be pics of the house from that angle...

Just been on the quads to see the bottom of the valley, something we couldn't do till 2 days ago! But ill get back to that...
So after heading to the back fence to take some pics , (my bros have been here 4 months before me and never seen the boundaries nor walked up the valley) ( and probably never will walk up the valley now), I took a right as I walked back towards the waterfall and followed the lil stream the leads to the basin of the valley and stems from run of from the hills and the water that seeps through the earth befor hitting rock I guess.. anyhu, as far as we know, this spring and stream have never run dry..
These are pics of that lil part of the trek and the last pic should be of where the water comes outa the ground.. the source of the nile..

Sooooo.... that brings us kinda up ta mid week last week ish?
Then what happened was the neighbour was getting his drive done . His drive where it branches of from my bros is just over a km long and was pretty fucked. He'd asked a few months back if he could remove all the wire from the posts in prep for the work. No problem if he kept his cows away from our land somehow..
This didn't happen as his cows went into our native forest and reaped havoc for a day..
But that was nothing..
Next up he removed all the posts as well so there was no knowing where the boundary was..
Then the diggers turned up...
These diggers can do fuck loads in a day (pics to follow) and by the time me and bro went to do some shopping and got home they had leveled about 400m2 of our scrub ( saplings n stuff) and smashed a few limbs offa some really old native trees..
When we got home, the sight that confronted us was quite upsetting...
Turns out the boss had left his cousin in charge, the client and us had not been consulted and he just went to town doing what he thought was best for our neighbour..
Pics now will make no sense to anyone really but I'll put one up so ya get an idea...
If you take a line from the gate in this pic, down to the last tree you see ( in the foreground ish) to the right of the drive, that is the area that has been leveled...

Upshot, the contractor levels out and reshapes the cleared area to out liking, the neighbour supplies 20 tonnes of mulch, which doesn't make good on the loss of 50-100 year old mulch so is also to supply and plant 200 native saplings.
The contractor is to get the broken limbs of trees professionally cut back and spread all dead branches ,saplings etc to provide shade to new plantings.
Also as compo we want the contractor to give us a few days labour.
He agrees and has spent the last 2 days cutting a track to the bottom of the valley..
( this is why no one will ever walk apart the valley ever again..)

No, it was truly just an error of judgement on the clients behalf and stupidity on the contractors..
But both parties are actually really good people and we have come out with a win...
So, now we can bogie on the quad to the bottom of the valley where work on the lake is already in progress! Well, in reality it may not happen till next year but the have done the exploration works and it looks like we will have, roughly, a 40 x 7 × 2-3 mtr deep swimming hole! All feed but the lil spring in my earlier pic..
The new track down to the basin is 275 mtrs long.
Today they pulled all the top soil back up so in time grass will grow back.

I try to put things in my pics for scale but it sill doesn't really convey just how huge some of the shit that is going on is or how steep and big the drops are offa the side off the new track!! The exploration hole in the basin for example, is 3mtrs deep!

Like anywhere, its cheaper in places where there is no work and long drives to get anywhere but compared to what you earn here its far from cheap. Its gone mad in recent years and is only getting worse by the day...
As far as creepy crawlies go, there is nothing that will kill ya, but there are some big ugly bugs that I dont like at all.
After my lil hike the other day I took my welly off and out fell a 2 inch huhu bug that was caught in the roll or my jeans..
Scared the shit outta me..
