Coolant in spark plug channel

Depending how much he wants to travel when he's in the U.K.

There is of course Nelly, depending if he's read this thread 😂
I’ve read the thread… don’t really have anything to add tbh as the diagnosis looks to have been covered. It’s fucked!
I’ve got enough on without taking another engine on. It’d only be fair to let another shop enjoy this one 🤔😂

Nelly was my first thought (I’ve seen your response above @Nelly ) but I also assumed, perhaps wrongly, he’d have to use new parts sourced from Ducati and the owner wants to go down the used part or complete used engine route in order to save himself money.

Have you run it without the thermostat?

I don’t think that’s possible without some serious MacGyvering, the squirter unit, as it’s termed, sits behind the water pump inbetween the cylinders and at this stage there’s no point throwing more time, and his money, at all sorts of tests.

Ducati John, near Leeds. Might now be known as Bologna v twins after Ducati got shirty with him.

Thank you, he’s on my list of suggestions. 👍

I don't have a problem using used parts tbh, but that motor is going to need a complete rebuild, whatever way he goes. Even a used motor, I'd suggest stripping it and giving it a good going over. There are times when "saving money" is a false economy, and this is one of those times.

A known used engine in a sensible road going bike may be a reasonable gamble but a track focused near race bike spec 🤔 he may as well go the full hog and get a blueprinted motor with lots of toys on at this stage. I'm not sure there's a credible option to 'save' money for his requirements.

Good luck to him and I hope it all gets sorted properly in the end

I had to make a similar choice with my 748. $2000 for parts to do a proper rebuild as I would not split the cases without checking and replacing anything close to or out of spec and $1000 for an unknown low milage used motor from the big E. I chose the used motor to get more displacement (916 vs 748) and was prepared to still spend up to $2000 more to rebuild the used motor should there have been any issues. With track bikes, we all know they will be run hard and motor failure at 100+ mph can be deadly. You make your choice and pay your money as the saying goes.

Watch out for the wrong type of coolant in hot areas it will eat away the head,Mazda rotaries will do that if the wrong stuff is used,I had personal experience of that when my RX3 coupe leaked coolant when I removed a plug, and it looked like something had taken a bite out of the alloy around the plug housing.
