Ducati 250 street scrambler

My Christmas sales goodies arrived today, picked up just before christmas a new wiring loom and steering damper for under £40. Also located a set of std rings in Australia all I need now is a 12v alternator and electronic ignition unit and some free time to stick everything together.:)

They do "show" deals at likes of Stafford where they were cheaper again from memory.
You get the benefit of the uprated alternator as well with their kit.

I was going for the 12v set up, looks good value for money ignition coil, regulator, pickups and alternator all for under £300. Do you use it without a battery? I noticed it is advertised as a self generating.
 
I do have a battery fitted (just that there always was one and I suppose it means I can have lights on without running the engine) but the battery on it is goosed at the moment (putting out about 3V!) but starts no problem so it would suggest the self generating side is working fine.
I have electronic (non self generating) on another bike and there is no spark unless the battery is in good condition.
Only issue I have with the Electrex is that it was set up as per their instructions. (38btdc from memory) but although it will start it is not running properly and I think it could be my bike has been modified at some point and I am going to simply get it running and then adjust the timing until it is running sweet.
Low tech but it should work! :)

Ooo - I was looking at these last year for my wee monza, and may well decide to go the same route in due course. Looking forward to hearing more :)
 
Spent more time in the bothy working on the bikes in last couple of months than any winter before.
This type of thread is keeping me motivated!

Cheers! I just had a look all seem to be there.
Not starting on any SS projects yet will complete the grandfather of the Belt drives first. I have one that will be a stick bits on affair then fancy building another chassis for the other, maybe something radical along the lines of the NCR thingy still collecting photos for referance but the project box is filling up nicely.

After the inspiring borders meet yesterday evening :stir: :D I decided to remove the bearings from the wee Ducati cases this afternoon oven up to temp.

Perfect fit kettle on now waiting for the cases to heat before removing the bearings. I will not be inserting the new bearings straight away as I want to make sure all the beads from blasting are fully removed first. I had noticed a few around bearing surfaces, yes I have heard better to replace straight away to stop any warping but this is the way it shall have to be done.

Once i manage to retreave the bits from the back of my shed and it starts to make sense, or even interesting, i'll post pictures. Gonna be bog standard except the exhaust. The beast will be 30 year old this year. Got to bring it back to life for it's anniversary.
