Ducati 250 street scrambler

Hi Muxey, no need I found a picture of one and counted the ribs same number as mine! does it have a bellmouth or some sort of attachment on the Amal carb?

Yes there is an extension on the carb about 50mm long but the hose I bought is short also ?
Did you get it from barry , at classic ducati.
I have used the hose that came with the bike its not correct its a top hose off something ?
I hated the squad headlight and intended to change it but its growing on me now.

Hi Muxey no the hose came with the bike or trailer load of bits do you have a pic of the extension is this something you made or found/adapted?

Hi the extension came on the carb, its slight
wider at the mouth.
But is too wide for the new robber hose , I may make something else so I can put the new one on.

From the DVLA leaflet "Vehicle Registration Numbers and Number Plates" (INF104):

So, given that your bike is registered after 1 January 1973 then it will need black characters on a Yellow reflective background.
The size of the plate isn't defined, the size of the characters, distance between them and the width of the borders are. Unless you are very lucky and have a number something like L1 JII you'll be hard pushed to fit a normal 7 figure number in much less than 9 x 7.

Well it looks like that Sam fella, has went and gone and done it again.

2 excellently excuted projects under his belt and mine is barely started.

Looking braw. I'll bet it looks even better in person.

Hi Muxey,

What petrol taps are you using do you know where I could get some? the connection on mine are 10mm x1mm pitch but pi$$ing petrol and the outlet needs to be 8mm across the bark I have smaller ones but they are too small and short on the spigot. p.s. how did the mot go?

Motocicli Veloci look like they might have what you want.

Cheers I ordered a set from Barry on Sunday evening, hopefully here before Saturday for a MOT.

Taps and velocity stack arrived all fitted may need to sort something better for the air tube or cut the stack and weld so it is a more direct fit,

also sorted the brake light switch issue I was not forking out £48 for the original ugly fecker so purchased a DT 175 switch new @ £4.35 delivered and ran a M12 x 1.25 tap through the hole.

MOT tomorrow morning! :)

Most of the Scramblers seem to be fitted with a Dellorto carb which is a clip fitting onto a Stub manifold.

This takes the carb further back nearer to the air filter hose. You've got an Amal Mk1 Concentric with a flange fitting, straight on to the head. Maybe a spacer between the carb and the head would do the trick. They used to available for Amal carbs in the 60's and 70's.

The Amal was fitted to the mototrans motors (built in Barselona, emphasis on the "TH") as standard but as far as I understand these motors were 69 mm bore this motor is 74mm so must have been the last of the Italian built motors. I would have to find an angled manifold stub for the 600 seres Amals which were fitted to Trident's and Rocket three's but not sure if these were angled or not. (becoming a bit of an anorac)

The dellorto had a clamp and stub fitting and came further back. Mine is Spanish with the amal but its a DM motor . The bike looks good I have the same stop light switch they are cheap but dont last long.

First good run on the wee bike over an extended weekend around the Moidart Peninsula on Thursday over 100 bikes attended. The bike ran sweetly all the way back to the finish, started first kick everytime we stopped parked up for a couple of hours waiting on people returning. Decided to head back to the hotel as the weather looked to be turning and the freekin thing would not start , no spark! put it on the trailer and set off back to base for a pint or several as it turned out to be.

View from the bar/hotel :)

I had intended on heading further north on the Saturday but the forecast looked bad for the Sunday run home, heads or tails. Thursday evening I decided to have a wee hurl up to Plockton on Friday morning and visit a fiew friends on the way. After several pints the night before I rolled the bike off the trailer before breakfast to see what was going on with the bike not firing up, started first kick? Checked over a couple of things and everything looked ok so set off on a full belly o haggis bacon and eggs n tattie scones.

Top o the hill at Drumbuie

Fair enjoyed the run 1000 plus miles on it now n still grinning! :) for a wee bike it gives lots of fun and returns close on 70 mpg.

Now if it had been a magneto ignition I'd have said it need the condenser replacing but with these new fangled electronic things it could be anything!
Bad connection? Damp in the connector from the pulser unit? Damp grounding the black/white cut out wire? As long as that wire isn't grounded it should spark

The only rain we had was on the Wednesday on the way up, the Thursday run was glorious, I did check in where the pulser unit is located but this was dry, I had thought maybe the seal had let oil past but nothing and no chafing of the black n white wire. Difficult to find a problem when it is no longer there the first thing I was going to remove was the kill switch but glad I tried the bike first before removing as I would have thought that had been the problem, may still be the failt though!
