Métis 2 Bobber Build

Got my "exhaust wrapping" done today so here's a couple of pictures as I know WCP loves this sort of thing !! :ROFLMAO:

Thought I'd better get some progress done before Exi asks !! ;)

I needed to make my own throttle cable as there isn't anything suitable out there. Because I have a mixture of an American engine/carb & British throttle the standard, off the shelf Harley offering would need altering anyway.
So I bought a selection of parts from Venhill to have a go myself. I was hoping to get them to make me a couple of cables, but they only make "custom" cables to a drawing & I don't really have one as it's not that easy to measure everything & get it all perfect. As it is, the one I've now made I will be able to measure accurately & if need be get them to make me a couple. I'll see how mine works once the bike is running & decide then whether to make another myself or go to the experts. Most likely I'll do it myself now I have something to copy, making small measurement adjustments should be easy.

Below are the bits I started with.

The 90 degree bend works nicely on top of the carb as it routes the cable nicely under the tank without a tight bend.

I would have preferred the throttle housing 90 degree to have an adjuster as part of it, but that wasn't an option on the Venhill site. It's not really a problem, so long as I can adjust out any excessive play, which I seem to be able to do. The next effort will be tweaked slightly to get a little less initial adjustment, so giving more adjustment for the future should it be needed.

The machine shop rang yesterday to say my bits will be ready on Wednesday. I called in today & picked up the clutch cover for a bit more visual progress !! ;)
Basically the clutch cover is the same as that on the other bone shaker, but it has a step on the rear face as the clutch basket now has a step in it, unlike the previous one which was flat. Also, the five mounting holes in the clutch were already pre-drilled & tapped hence the larger countersunk screws in this cover over the M2 screws in the other bike's cover. Primary drive pulley cover & steering damper arm will be ready tomorrow now.

By hell, make sure you wear you bicycle clips sir! (y) :giggle:

Is that planning time + build
Someone else’s bike was decades in planning I forget who 😗
He built a mock up mk 1 first, took him 12 years and he's been on this 10 years = 22 years.
I started for 6 months, stopped while I built a business up alongside a full time job 🥵 and then built it in 18 months = 2 years.

It really is that simple and all documented :)

Anyhoo, stop yapping and joshing about much quicker builds and leave him be, or there might not be enough pages left on the internet for him to finish it 🤷‍♂️

So let's get this right, Mr. I Can't Add Up Exi.
By your own admission a certain replica was started in May 2013 & went for it's first test run May 2024. All documented on this & a certain other forum. When I went to school that equalled 11, yes ELEVEN years !

My first bone-shaker took ten years to complete, all documented on this & a certain other forum.
This second bone shaker, so far, having been started early 2019 & will be finished this year & by my reckoning that will make it 7 years.

So, just to recap, I've built two, yes TWO bone-shakers in 18 years while our grade D maths genius took 11 to make one 🧑‍🎓

Fantastic work, your build was.

Where did you buy the parts for it? Was it a scrappy?

You both need to leave room on the internet to finish his build, he's already taken 10 times longer than mine 🤷‍♂️

Finished my woodwork glossing in the dressing room so that gave me the green light for a bit more garage time !
Collected the other two bits of CNC bling this afternoon.
The steering damper arm, which need extending to reach the bracket on the frame downtube.

And the engine pulley cover, which matches the clutch cover. I'll get the anodising done when the bike gets stripped down for the final rebuild.

All that's needed now is the magneto, battery & wiring loom !

Will the extra length affect the damping?
And definitely don’t get your 1970s flairs out

Re anodize that damper black when you get the rest done - and cut those bolts to length and use nicer nuts - they are all iggledy piggldy 🤪
