My empire of dirt...

I wouldn't use a tarp even a clear one as it would turn to cool space into an oven.

How easy is it for you to get Lilanai fine clear mesh which is used in many spaces such as Florida to allow the breeze and view in, whilst keeping the Guinnessy midges and bugs out.

Just an example Ultra Fine Insect Mesh Netting - Harrod Horticultural

If cheap is your need, then the cheapest net curtain to fill the gaps, no pattern just plain, to do the same as the clear mesh.
Its more to keep the rain out and not spoil the views. The sides would be up if sunny and we in there. You are right though, it would be like a glass house in there!
Thought it would be quite hot in there as is, given the roof is a charcoal color, but it's actually really cool.
I'm just heading out there now to start on the boxing for the concrete then maybe head to the beach...

Only got 2 hrs work in as it got too bloody hot!!!
We went to a beach 25 min drive away.
Half of the 20km trip is gravel roads which I guess puts some folk off as it was pretty quiet.
Its called whananaki, there is a north and a South side. We parked on the south side, crossed to the north via the footbridge, had a bloody lovely burger the went back to the south side where b had a swim..
It's a really nice place and the drive there is quiet pretty..

And anyway it's a shelter for the broken hearted.
We only have 3 so I guess were lucky 🥳

Great pictures in typical chiz style 👍

So I did get the concrete on the lean to finished on Monday last week. Ran out of builders mix ( ballast to you poms) on sunday with about a mtr left to do.
it was good timing though as a mates son was racing go carts 20 min drive away and we got there just in time to catch his final race. He one it and with that, he's won the season with 3 rounds to go! He's only just 7 but he's so much better than his competition despite some being a few years older.
Great stuff!!!!
Anyhu, picked up all the flashings for the garage on Friday afternoon but as we were away Saturday and helping the digger guy on Sunday, I've yet to start fitting em and obviously it's passing down today....
Digger got the bulk of what we wanted done achieved in 3 hours yesterday, he's just got to come back and take the last bit of dirt away and drill some holes for the fruit trees.
There was a manky porch area out the front made of rocks, bricks and general crap that had been tarmaced over, this had to go coz it was shit and I need it clear for access when we start repiling. Also in the future, that space will become part of the spare bedroom.
There was some horrible yaka trees in the front yard and loads of rocks which were all pushing over the boundary fence so that all got dug up. Lost a Lil privacy but i will deal with that by way of a screen fence type thingy, at some point!
Gunna put the roses where the yakas were..
Yards a bit of a mess now but once cleared and we decide what to do with the rocks, all will be grand!
Also last week I finally got some stain on the rest of the fence. Still needs another coat but it looks loads smarter .

Are properties expensive in NZ Chiz?

Are properties expensive in NZ Chiz?
Yes. Like any country I guess, the bigger cities most expensive . You can definitely still by relatively cheaply but in not so nice areas or remote places with little or no employment opportunity. We have done really well, despite the amount of work to be done!!!
B sis has just bought a place an hours drive from Central auckland, the house is a bit bigger than ours but section same size, she's paid 3 times what we did. We couldn't afford that and I hate auckland!!!!

So some progress over the last few weeks but not alot!!!
Finished the cladding on the lean to and got the bulk of the flashings on, just the roof ones to go...
Picked up the fascias a few days ago and have put a few coats of paint on em to make life easier once they are fitted..
Had the digger back day before yesterday to clear the last of the rubble and dig holes for plants..
Fucken plants... no idea where to put anything but they need planting. We re-potted em but with this weather they have quadrupled in size in only a few weeks..
Anyhu, digger was here and I'd pegged out where I wanted some of the holes. No sweat..
joked with him about his insurance as one hole was close to the water mains, but I have a drawing with the services illustrated and we were a good mtr away from the pipe and it runs away from where we were digging..
Ummm...
No it don't!
Straight through the water main!!!
Lol.. luckily enough the digger dudes mum owns a property that neighbors ours so he shot over there and found a fitting that got the water back on temporarily.. this morning I got another for a more permanent fix . Busting for a shit and the ability to flush after is a great motivator....anyhu, we have now planted the citrus and think we know where to plant the rest (ish)
Some pics?
In no particular order obviously!
One yaka left to get rod of but diggers trailer was full so he willpick it up laterer...

Tings ain't loading so good..
Anyhu,while I wait I'll say a Lil more stuff..
In the back corner of the property, there was a kinda compost heap.. basically the last owners were pigs and just dumped everything in the back yard against the neighbors fence.. this became a rats nest.. over the last few weeks we have cleared as much as possible, then the digger dug a hole, scrapped the last of oyster shells and shit into it and covered it up.. all is good now..
That spot is where we will put the chickens..
Aunt seen a rat since we cleared it but I'm gunna get a large caliber gun just in case..
I don't even hate rats but I like shooting stuff...
My sister visited for the first time last week.. she commented on some bugs the were on one of our plants. Said the Same type of bug destroyed all her plants this year.. no problem i said, they aunt hurt ours at all..
2 days later, most of our plants are nearly dead.. I'm sure they will make a come back but I may shoot my sister just in case...
It doesn't remind me of anything... that's the song that is on atm.. good tune! Blowing afucken gale here!!!
Opp!!! Pics are mostly loaded... one to go...
Crickey!!! The wind may blow the house over soon! Garage will be fine...
Here we go... pics loaded....I

So after weeks of procrastination I finally put the last fascia boards on!!!! Just need to fill, paint , fit gutters and paint roof an garage is done!!!!
Just having a beer brake and watching the motor x that's going on up in the hills. Bit of a distance but can see loads of the track and hear it clear as.. bs watching from the bedroom window while cleaning the bedroom.
I love our Lil house!!!! How many places can ya watch motor bikes jumping and crash from the deck and the bedroom!!!
The hill closest to us has claimed about 5 bikes in the half hour I've been watching. All riders have walked away...
