Water Bead Blasting (Vapour Blasting)
Had a wee trip to Falkirk today;
Here is the front pot yesterday before I got in about it with the paint stripper and scouring pads;

Then today after a bit of work at Lyndene Engineering;

Just given them a good douse and rub down with ACF50 before they even think about oxidising

There is a nice wee engine in Dundee under a tarp that would look brill after that work.

let me guess ... even with all that VERY careful blocking off ... some glass beads got into the insides didn't they?
Always does, I suspect every bag of glass bead is blessed by Paul Daniels with the magical power to get inside things you wouldn't think you could get inside.

mmm plating ... I have a big collection of plastic buckets filled with acids and associated nasties 
some of it even comes out lookign OK too. the Zinc is simple enough to do and the blue/clear passivate looks pretty good .. I can never get the yellow passivate to come up quite as well though,
As Pict said .. you can do a surprising amount just be cleaning and polishing and painting. A decent HVLP spray gun and some time and effort makes a BIG difference to what you can do for little money. Painting isn't that hard when you get down to it, especially when its just a single flat colour like Ducati red!
speaking of which ... I touched up some panels on the Supersport using the much recommended "Ford Radiant Red" rattle can from halford .. excellent match ... did the front fairing too, looks great, quick top coat of UPOL lacquer and its sorted

Ah yes ... seems it did. Damn stuff always does. Still, better safe than sorry, strip it down and wash it all out.

Me too - started looking at the garage - yea workbench there - heater there, some more lights over here, budget of £2k for a 900SS or SL start tinkering and cleaning.
Then i wake up - never done this before - not a mechanical finger on me and she would go mental. So i will keep reading and plotting.

Ebay is not usually the place for a bargain.
You can be lucky and find someone on your doorstep and folk from South of the border won't travel for a "cheap" bike.
Depending what you are going to do with the bike you may not be bothered about the cosmetics (as was the case with myself) and if mechanically ok you can get a scruffy one for a knockdown price.
I know of one bike just now that is perhaps coming up for a lot less than £2k so they are out there. Just asking about usually is the way they come up.

Andrew, the boys are right there are cheap bikes out there, if you can pick up a "shabby" one which is basically mechanically sound then its great to take to bits and paint, plate etc.....However if the motor needs work and you don't have the skills (the boys do) then costs can spiral out of control....just my ten bob's worth mate...
mine was 800 and something (forgotten to be honest) on eBay ... someone had left it in a self-storage place and not paid the bill 
no tank, but that was not a big problem (well, sort of not ... bought one that was supposed to be complete and it was just the tank shell, spent ages getting hold of all the bits, finally got it almost sorted .. fuel pump on its way ... and someone posts a very nice complete tank on eBay for £50 
... so there are bargians on eBay .. just not very often.
but yeah, generally speaking, you won't get a bargain on the bay. theres enough dealers and breakers on there to keep the prices at around the market rate .. and enough punters paying over the odds to keep the bargains away, unless its something thats a bit risky ... damaged repairable etc.
Where the bay is great is for bits ... I picked up a set of dash lights / clock mounts for £5 the other day ... just got to be patient and keep looking

I had filed that particular dilemma away in a wee box in my subconcious - now I'll not be sleeping for days
Overpressurisation of the FCR's even by the lowly SS pump is well documented, but if I do keep the pump then I have a cunning plan to make the return path a lot more attractive to the petrol than the feed path.
However
I can't really see what the problem would be with gravity? It has a few attractions, firstly the FCR trouble but also the saved weight of the pump (a lot of £££ in carbon or Ti to make the equivalent weight loss) and also less electrical stuff. Heck, the extra volume from removing the pump might compensate the fuel thats left in the tank when the level drops to the point when gravity runs out.
The only niggle is that if anyone else is successfully running gravity feed with FCR's then they are keeping quiet about it. I'll be in aboot the tank in the next couple weeks so will need to decide. Might toss a coin. Best of three.
