TT2 Replica build

You could have used an old soft drinks can for less effort?

Then again it would look rubbish! :lol2:

Continuing to look good! ;)

Next!

Have just received a tank this morning from a guy in the Czech republic he saw my build on a forum and suggested he send me his tank so I could copy, it is a remarkably good fit seeing as I only had two photographs to copy the chassis from. Nice guys these TT folk better get my finger out now and finish the Monster off, starting to get a wee buzz again.:)

Finally pulled this project out from under the cover and made a sturdier jig for future use.

Hey Sam, project TT2 continues to look good. Which shock did you go with in the end? The original Ohlins race shock on my own TT2 needs refurbishing and I was wondering if it might be easier/cheaper to replace it with something more modern.

The shock that is on the bike is an SS unit which is too long as far as I understand set the engine level and swing arm at 12deg droop then measure eye to eye. I spoke to Maxton this time last year and they were getting one of Jim Blomleys bikes in to build a shock for that so they should now have something suitable. I would think it would be cheeper to rebuild the shock sure I had a price of £450/£550 mark for new shock.

Great to read about the progress, As I may need to pick you brains soon as I am starting with a Harris frame and S/A
650 motor and a pile of junk! Watch this space !

Yes I have a friend in the us on here all the time, I will be starting in ernest later in the year on it,
Just reading up on the way to go right now.
maybe one of my singles will have to go to help the fund along.

Do you have fairings for it? ragged edge racing do a seat and full fairing with bubble for either F1 or F2 at a very reasonable priice. Why are you selling a bike I thought you had a pile o bits?

One step forward 10 back

Have decided this afternoon to scrap this frame after making a sturdier jig and carefully measuring everything it is going to take too much cutting and fiddling about and I would still not be happy with the clearence with the front wheel and cylinder head. I have made the jug adjustable so can now move the headstock further forward, I should have paid more attention the first time!!!:o
Looking on the bright side I have something to gauge on also there are a few mods I will make as well. :)

I have the fairing seat etc and a spare pantah with a 500 motor,
I have a couple of singles one i ride a lot and a daytona i dont use so the daytona can help the tt fund.

In the jig ready to start bending tube once more, must say the jig feels a lot stiffer than the first attempt have also given up on the cones to support the steering head and made exact fit slugs which will stop the bearing surface distorting.I will be able to salvage some tube from the old frame.

First tube bent so much easier having something to copy from.

IMG_2510.jpg

Top rails fitted, now to machine up engine mounts and wider aluminium spacers going to give myself more room this time.
IMG_2511.jpg

Scalloping the tube made easy.
IMG_2512.jpg

Good fit.
IMG_2513.jpg

Top and bottom rails now fitted and tacked in place.
IMG_2514.jpg

Nice and slim from the rear just how I like it.
IMG_2516.jpg

Pretty curvey from the front as well.

*speechless*

Not only have you had the guts to junk a frame at this state of the build; a frame that 99.9% of the population would have been more that happy with, you are now building one that unbelievably looks like it's going to be even better that the last one.

If I was wearing a hat, I'd take it off to you.

"Cheers"

It took from last September untill Friday to make this decision it would have been niggling away at me re: the front geometry and wheel clearence from the cylinderhead even although I was using a smaller profile tire and thought about different offset on the yokes but this would have messed with the trail, better safe than sorry. The only way it will be better is that it will be correct this time, hopefully! ;)

Re-did the bottom tubes as they did not look correct still not happy with them but better than the last lot, took two hours to scallop and fit the horizontal tube and 3/4 to do the other side!

Have also managed to fit a longer bellmouth with gause screen by puting a bend in the engine mount tube before fitting not a lot of room but can take an 1/8 off the manifold to give a little extra clearance.

Almost where I was last September!

Have the cross bracing to fit and then I can fully weld after making another steady for the top of the steering head tube.

Sam, that is a joy to behold. Now - Is it going to be under the Verlichi weight this time?!

It won't be any lighter than the first I have been looking for a comparison on 4130 (crome molly) tube to T45 to see if it is any lighter my guess is that Verlicci used 1.2 wall 4130 I have used 1.5 wall tubing on mine.

Picked up an early ss swing arm from my favourite store which has the 28mm swing arm pin the same as the Pantah.
IMG_3038_zpsead4a3be.jpg

The offset on the shock mount is the same just an optical confusion in the pic.

IMG_3039_zps436f38c8.jpg

I had made up spacers to suit the later swing arm I had then sleved the original pin to fit the smaller dia pin of the SS

Looks much better and less pieces to wear this way.

Comparison to a swing arm I modified some 27yrs ago.

Pretty close and I had not seen one before, come to think of it the SS probably was not in production by then!;)

This thread just gets better and better everytime I read it well done Sam and please keep it going Laddie.

Scott

Nothing will be happening for while Scott, getting to the point that I doubt I shall get the wee bike done for the start of the summer. On a good note though have a steady flow of work ahead of me for several months.
