@Barry Hell, @Noobie & @Robarano thank you for your input. It helps put things in context when reading comments since I have 0% knowledge on these models.

Until recently, Ducatis were unicorns in the states, at least in my circles and typically way out of my price range; I also always heard people bitch abuit parts availability being a pain in the ass.

My 1st run in with the brand was at the V-Twin races and I was not really paying attention to Ducati, I was rooting for the Buell home teams that rarely won.

I think you mean 916, 996 & 998, they are the Tamburini design and popular for their aesthetics (and Foggy legacy amongst other things), belts are recommended every 2 years but most go for longer without issue. Easy job to do yourself or a few hundred quid to a mechanic. Then there's the valve clearance checks recommended every 6,000 miles which are more of a ball-ache but easy to do yourself if you are confident with feeler gauges and fiddly spaces (the 998's are easier as it's more of a 'rocker' cover removal and more space.

Collectors want early ones with Cagiva graphics or 'SPS' & 'R' models so prices are all a bit silly. 748 is the same shape and a little cheaper.
..SPS and R models are exceptional investments.... as it appears the S model of the 998.

One for @Noobie . Its a non runner so you can use it as an objet d`art in your lounge, no need to worry about riding it. Its a Nero too !

It’ll make a great project bike that. I may put in a bid, even if I have to pay VAT on it.

If you want a real laugh, look at the asking price on this 😮

Ducati Multistrada
DUCATI MULTISTRADA

They’ve had it for months and will have it for years more at that price.

Think about it. It says much about Ducati’s in the US back in the day, the dealership never took it out of the crate. It just sat in a corner for almost 2 decades. Similar to high-end European autos, servicing is an expense most were not willing to take on, professionals and entertainment folks being the exceptions.
The dot-com boomers were too big of pussies to ride motorcycles then - until the lawyers and doctors started sucking up Harleys. Purchasing shiny chrome parts for your overpriced Harley, now, that’s more reasonable.

Owning a Harley in your lifetime is now practically requirement/rite of passage along with a firearm of choice - Check✔️.
