My Energy supplier has gone bust.

Is everyone aware that the current price for a unit of electricity is £0.65p/kWh and daily standing charges are 50p a day.
That is 5 times higher than 30 months ago and twice the standing charge.
On the usage domestic customers are getting about 50% relief/support from central government... at the moment.
The daily rate isn't supported nor is it controlled by OFGEN, instead "market forces keep this competitive"

Ummm.... when you cannot move suppliers there is no competition.
 
When I say you cannot move suppliers I mean that you current rate is the lowest you'll get.
Moving will only increase your bills.

If they drop much more they’ll be giving it away and the suppliers will still charge consumers a fucking fortune.

In short, Ofgem is a waste of space and all they’re doing is protecting company profits.

Got this in an email from my energy supplier today.

Why are government obligating them to install smart meters ?

Wait till ofgem find out about this, they’ll be right angry.
 
I've noticed I've started to get e-mails about switching over the last few weeks. The deals are rubbish, but something's happening. 🤔

The rush to fix your price for a year must be based upon there being further energy price cuts coming soon.
You see the same thing with fixed-rate mortgage lending, loan-shark loans and other criminal enterprises.
 
My energy supplier had switched me to a fixed one year deal without my knowledge.

Contacted them using their ‘chat’ facility and after they’d try to sell me solar panels and give me a ‘smart’ meter they apologised and switched it back.

I did wonder about contacting Ofgem - has anyone ever tried and was it rewarding in any way ?

Ofgem would probably fine you for being awkward and then force a PAYG meter on you.
 
Maybe controversial, but it’s a price ‘cap’, what’s to stop an energy supplier charging less ?

Isn’t that the idea of privatisation, to create competition?

If, say, NrgyRyou decided they could still make a good profit by charging 5p less per unit wouldn’t they get loads more customers ?

Privatisation wasn't meant to promote competition nor to improve services for consumers.
Privatisation was purely the mechanism for setting up cushy income scams for chums.
We know this because Ofgem does not attempt to break up the power supplier cartel that currently exists. No, Ofgem *protects* the cartel.

Once you understand what corporatism is, all this stuff becomes very clear indeed.

Back in the day, before the Russian invasion of its peaceful neighbour, plenty of billing companies charged well under the price cap.

Might help if they simplified it all to give people a better idea of what they’re paying for.

I believe the standing charge has been raised again, now costing nearly £1 a day just to stay connected. How the fuck does that work, surely all the bullshit excuses don’t explain higher costs for the suppliers to leave people connected. W⚓️s.
