Had to ring the DVLA up today to chase my driving licence
Now I'm over 65 I have to renew it every year because of my heavy goods, which involves having a medical, including an eye sight test.

After getting passed on to another department I had to queue again on the phone, although after ten minutes gave up & got them to ring me back after a recorded voice said the wait was now over 1 hour 30 minutes

In fairness they did ring back & after checking I was who I said I was they said they have received & logged my complaint ! I told her I hadn't complained about anything, I just wanted to check they'd received it as it was sent originally on 17th November. She told my complaint was about my birth certificate getting ripped, I again that I had NOT complained, neither had I had to send them my birth certificate !!
Anyway, turns out I have to have an eye sight test at one of the DVLA approved SpecSaver outlets, (that's got to be a good money spinner for them !) even though the HGV medical includes an eye sight test !!

So on Friday I'm having an eye sight test & SpecSaver then send the results direct to the DVLA. Who knows when I'll get my licence back !! 🤷‍♂️

Not sure he'll keep it long enough to benefit from that sort of investment, other than his EVO9, he only keeps his cars around 3 years at the most.
Maybe this one will be a "keeper", but I doubt it ! :ROFLMAO: It is nice though, just needs a rear wing & it will look just like the GT4 he wanted !! :ROFLMAO:

Very perriesque 😆👀

@CAT3 all of us mature peeps over the age of 60 get free eye tests, am due one in April 'when I'm 64' 🎼
For a NHS routine eye test yes they are free, but vocational ones such as part of a medical for applying/renewing your HGV driving licence they cost money. That actual cost depends upon who is doing the medical, my local doctor charged me £90 whereas a mobile medical company I now use only charge £50.

It remains to be seen what the cost is going to be for the proposed "over 70's" eye sight test & who will be paying that. I know who I suspect is going to have to be putting their hands in their pockets !!

So, after going to Specsaver today to have my eye test, that the DVLA wanted before renewing my HGV licence, even though I'd already had to have an annual medical which includes an eye test !!, it turns out the test they requested was just the simple "read the ever decreasing sized letters" one & not requesting a range of vision test to be conducted, it was marked as "NOT REQUIRED", the results have now been sent to the DVLA & I'm now awaiting my licence back, unless they find something else they want to know for no good reason !!

The optician said it was very unusual for the DVLA to request a test without the range of vision part, anyway, at least it didn't cost me anything !! :ROFLMAO:

A mate of mine goes through the same shit every year despite never ever driving a hgv but he's stubborn as fuck and won't let the licence go 😆

Is he Irish? That's kinda the definition of Irish, they dont know what they want but they will fight ya for it anyway...
He got it back when they gave all the categories out as an amnesty to please Europe... we had such a back log of provisional drivers they decided by age just to award extra privileges so he's never even done a test 🤔it's the reason most uk construction companies had paddies driving trucks in the 60s 70s and 80s 👀

I'm a bit the same to be honest, stubborn ! :ROFLMAO:
It's about three years since I last needed to drive an artic, but I just can't bring myself to loose my entitlement, not yet anyway !! :ROFLMAO:
It's always come in handy when there was no aircraft work about or I just fancied a change.
