We are fine thanks mate. Got a couple of friends that live 20 mins away that are cut off by slips but are doing ok, one of em is like a doomsday prepper so he will be fine!
Last Saturday we took the Russell rd to Russell for the first time , it's 10 mins from here then just over an hour of twisty stuff to Russell. The weather was perfect and zero traffic so we had a great drive. We then got the car ferry over to paihia and stayed a night there.
Sunday, We were going to come home the same way but due to car trouble we had to get a tow truck home and went down the inland route. Anyhu it was kinda lucky we did as that Russell road had a few slips on Sunday.
It is though, a shit show in many regions with a few fatalities reported and folks still missing. Lots of damage in so many areas.
A lot of people have suffered potentially life changing events.

Good to hear all’s well with you.
Years back I remember walking up Mt Maunganui for the view, with my cousin who had a dairy in the town. Sadly it’ll be very different now.

Yea. They are still searching in the landslide for survivors but it doesn't look good. They haven't released numbers but one report said it's single digits.
Just spoke to my mate out by helena bay (20km from here) he is just this side of a big slip that has cut off the Russell rd. Apparently there is a metal rd linking the other side to civilization but it's a shit road at the best of times and will get worse if used for all traffic.
That slip could take months to clear.
Mike, my mate out there, has a few hundred acres of native bush on the side of a mountain. He has a rough drive that goes 400 mtrs down into the valley from his house. He was just investigating it as we were speaking. 50 mtrs in and there is a slip blocking going any further. He has a bridge and a few platforms down the bottom which may or may not still be there.

Some of the G chords I stick a G7 in for that eagles sound but it’s relatively easy and the rhythm is a slight tempo change but I always have my metronome clicker in my ear so
Shouldn’t be too bad x

As a child your brain is a blank canvas and you absorb more information without making asumptions or forming fixed thought patterns. I was brought up with classical music as my Dad was a professional musician and a concert standard pianist, so the guitar wasn't really on my radar until adulthood. I'd love to be able to play any bowed string instrument. I adore violin and cello music. The cello is reckoned to be the man-made instrument that most closely resembles the human voice in tone and expression, except it has vastly more range. Other instruments make sounds. Bowed strings sing like human beings.
I tried to learn the violin as a kid but I have a high collar bone and I found mounting the thing inder my chin excrutiatingly uncomfortable. I wish I'd be able to master it.

Well we were going to take our ice house up to the Canadian border to do some ice fishing this weekend but changed our minds. The temps are expected to stay below 0°F all weekend. Today being the lowest. It was -24°F this morning.
So, yes we would stay warm in the ice house. That's not the issue, they are built for the cold weather. The bigger concerns are the windchills with winds blowing up to 45mph on the lakes and we would have to go outside. Another concern is fish tend to not bite when it's exremely cold according to a local bait shop owner. Lastly we figure why drive 5 hours and risk a breakdown along the way. We've hunted in that area and the road to get there is not great and not necessarily safe if you do breakdown.
Now we plan to stay home, continue with projects and catch up on some shows or watch a movie.

Here is a "street sign"(so cute!) at a lake access, put in the ice by one of the resorts on Mille Lacs Lake. It is one of the bigger lakes in Minnesota located an hour north of us. We drove up to check it out last Sunday. They had to reconfigure the ice roads because the ice had shifted and heaved as well as a crack opened up a few weeks ago with some warm weather we had. You can see ice houses off in the distance.
The current weather will help significantly to make more ice. Maybe we'll be fishing next weekend!

Dad is 88 years of age today. He's still in a unit but is coming towards the end of the frankly too long assesments and it's likely that he will leave the unit and hopefully go into a care home, he's just too unsafe to go back home. He has on occasion, shown he understands the dementia is progressing but that doesn't stop him shedding a tear every now and again at losing bits of himself and his last vestiges of his independence.His mum had dementia and dad was concerned that he was going to "pass it on to us" even though we told him it doesn't work like that and we were more worried about him passing on his skills with wimmin which would see us all living like monks.

Me and son number 3 went to see him today and in the hospital grounds is a small cafe so we took him over there for a nice runny egg and sausage sandwich and a cuppa. He chomped on it like he was tasting his first ever steak, although it was entertaining watching the runny egg explode like a squid having an ink dump. Then he starts to tell us how he was in asia, burma and singapore regions not too long after the wars had finished and the poverty was terrible.

Then completely left field and in a packed cafe, he starts going on about his many conquests (not military ones) and how some of the other sailors had the metal brolly treatment up their knobs. The cafe seemed to go quiet for a while and thats when i remembered why dad is such a bell end :D

It must be great to have those options Faith given the land and seasons are normally very defined (y)
