Went to the drs today - first time in a while! I was seen by a paramedic in shorts 🤔. Weird painful shin but only when I weight bear on the bone

Anyway he had no idea & said no point booking an xray as it’ll take 12 weeks, they might not give you one anyway & I’m sure it will be better by then 😂

So if it’s not better in 12 weeks…it’ll be another 12 weeks wait

Often gp's now employ ex paramedics and call them "Medical Practioners". It's a con.

Dad needed a gp visit day before yesterday and that day he referred dad for a number of xrays. His trust has one main 24 hour hospital and two satellite hospitals which seem to be daytime only. That one referal means he can go to any of those three from the time the referral was written, I took him the very next day.

In your case Char, I'd contact the surgery, tell them why you are unhappy and insist on a x ray referal and possibly a blood test. Make noise and they suddenly listen.

The other day my son went to Southampton A&E with bad stomach pains and there was a 8/9 hour wait

They couldn’t get him a bed so sent him home. His appendix burst in the night at home so ended up 3 hours in surgery
& 3 days on IV antibiotics. If they’re sorted him the first time it would have been a 1/2 hour op and home the next day

Awful

Sorry if I mentioned this before lol

That is fucken terrible. Poor lad and I thought our medical system is shit.
I had stomach pains a few years back, got an emergency doc appointment and he sent me to hospital where the were going to operate the next morning for appendicitis. They did a scan to confirm ( which got sent to Australia as no one was available in nz at that time to analysis it)
And it came back with diverticulitis as the problem. The surgeon was real upset as she was 99% percent sure i wasnt leaving without her getting a souvenir.

Yeah I had mine out a few years ago. Straight to A&E no hanging around and quick keyhole surgery

Things have changed since Covid ☹️

Yep, its get used to not getting medical attention. Yet somehow the national health keeps costing more...

The best ever con to persuade people that the treatment for a flu or virus will no longer work so stay at home cross your fingers and pray to jebus meanwhile we will practice our tik tok dances and fake concern faces 👀 for the love of jebus do not expect your doc to see you as you are at deaths door with the vid ... unless you need a jab then roll up roll up 👍

In 2001 I had to have emergency surgery following similar symptoms. I'd been experiencing sporadic but intense abdominal pains for a few days. It came and went and I put it down to eating the wrong thing. I'd been working very hard and often didn't eat anything all day except some shitty pasty from a corner shop.
A few times at work I'd had to give up and retire to the tea hut and stuff myself with paracetamol and sit there with my head on the table. My work mates thought I was hungover/pissed off with the job or otherwise swinging the lead and had little sympathy. Then one day on a site in Yeovil I collapsed in a trench where I was laying foundations and couldn't continue. No one believed I was really ill.
Luckily one of our labourers was also a crewman on the Weymouth lifeboat and had first aid training. He phoned Yeovil hospital suspecting acute appendicitis and insisted I was taken to A&E immediately. Reluctantly the site agent drive me to the hospital in his car. Every tiny bump we drove over was agony and when we got there I couldn't get out of the car and was taken to a ward in a wheelchair.
After 24 hours of morphine and observation I was booked in for emergency surgery at 7:00 am the next day. They didn't really know what was wrong with me until they opened me up and had a look as my symptoms weren't quite right for appendicitis. In the middle of the night when I'd pressed the bell because of the pain I was in, the formidable ward sister who looked like Hattie Jaques asked me if I wanted to see a priest... I said what the fuck does he know about guts ache?

Anyway, next morning I was operated on and recalled nothing afterwards until I came out of intensive care two days later with tubes in my arm. It turned out I had acute adenitis. Very similar to appendicitis where nodes on the side of the large intestine twist and become infected with broadly similar results in extreme case (which mine was) if left untreated. They removed 1 1/2 pounds of gangrenous tissue from my lower intestine. If they hadn't done so I'd have been dead within 48 hours. 34 years old forever.

I'm very glad to hear that your son was treated successfully and in a timely fashion. But I've always wondered since my experience whether if it happened today I would have survived. I think after waiting on the phone to 111 for ages I'd have taken to my bed with a hot drink and paracetamol and no one would have noticed until flies gathered in the window and passers-by noticed a smell. Such is the state this country has sunk to.
