Health thread

Quite a depth of knowledge & personal experience in this thread. I always read the detailed posts carefully; very interesting.
My wife & I are a little heavier than we would like, & we both exercise at least 3 times a week; sometimes more & our lifestyle is fairly active.
We fast from around 7:00pm until 1:00pm the following day. Eat a very modest lunch; usually 300g tin of tuna with a little salad & a riveta. We don’t snack at all. Evening meals are meat or fish based but we do eat a lot of veggies too & a little rice or pasta.
We don’t seem to loose weight, but its likely down to liking a a glass of wine or 2 in the evenings; more at weekends.
Also love a cheeky pint with pals once a week.
My wife started taking the jab a few months ago after lots of research & consideration. So far, no ill effects & I have to say she looks great & I can tell she feels so much better about herself. For now I support her taking it; mental wellbeing is just as important at physical I think.
I am thinking of trying the carnivore diet; without sounding like a silly question, does it include any other foods?

Meat, fish, eggs, butter - you can have cheese too but that (and milk) container some carbs...depends how stringent you want to be.

Within meat there's a vast amount of choice. And then there's what they call the lion diet - just beef or lamb (or meat from any ruminent) and water. People report that as best for quickly ridding themselves of autoimmune conditions.

It's a real eye opener. If you do try it, ease into it - just meat and veg for a week or two.

And don't think lean meat is your friend...you need some fat in there (doesn't need to be visible fat...can be the fattier cuts).

Would the benefits be negated by alcohol?

Yes.

To minimise that, you could have neat spirits, but they still metabolise to glucose, but not to teh same degree that carby drinks do.

Another advantage as taught me by our wise Irish fella aka @The skitz is that you can have a shed load, and very little to no hang over. I've tried it many times since and it works.

People look at you like you're an alky when you're having double whiskies while they're on the beer, but the whisky lasts as long as their pint.

I've drank vodka and coke zero for years I get absolutely no hangover with no sugar or carbs in my alcohol .. processed food are more damaging than alcohol and fatty liver is much more a symptom of a shit diet than alcohol consumption but your doctor won't tell you to give up food even if it is rubbish.. common sense prevails of course and I drink one to two nights a week max and often not drinking for many weeks but will wait for a holiday for a decent session.. drinking hasn't affected my training or body fat ... the more years im carnivore the leaner I am ..

When I went carb/sugar/upf-free I did it mainly to control my blood pressure so I quit alcohol for about six weeks. That turbo-charged the process and the weight loss. I didn't need to lose much weight but I think quitting drinking at the start is vital to get blood sugar levels stable and reprogramme your metabolism.
I went back to drinking later but only ale. It does contain sugar and carbs but fewer UP chemicals than industrial pub lager. Craft European lagers are probably cleaner than ale if you're buying to drink at home. I never drink sugary stuff like mixers or cider, I don't drink wine or sweetened spirits. Only the occasional whisky, neat or with a splash if water or ice. I also tried to greatly increase my water intake, though I admit I struggle with that.
I drink tea at home (whole milk, no sugar) and green tea at work and I have to make a real effort to remember to drink plain water.
However you're trying to redial your metabolism, it won't work properly if you're not adequately hydrated.

On the water note; I've taken a leaf out of Dox's book and have carbonated water. I find I'm far more likely to drink it like that.

You are correct... but to clarify I drink alcohol with no to virtually no sugar and drinking whisky actually aids ketosis which is why I tell lads to drink whisky.. I cant stand it 😆

Through the hot weather in the summer I was drinking carbonated. I often chucked in a handful if fresh mint out of the garden. That's nice. My favourite in sparkling water is a sprig of lemon verbena but mine barely grew this year.
Now autumn's here I'm happy with tap water. I'm lucky that our tap water is very good. It's soft, never furs the kettle and has no chemical taste. It probably comes off one of the fell reservoirs or Kielder. Still need to drink more of it though..

I had a few days in the lake district last week and really struggled to drink the tap water. It had a really strong chemical smell and taste.

I thought the water would be nicer up there for some reason. How wrong was I.

Where were you ...possibly a private supply? I used to live in Cumbria and it was always nice - even here in Lancaster it's nice (for still water).

To be fair the cottage was in the sticks on it's own so that could have been the case. Just South of Hawkshead.
