Health thread

There's no could about it. It's been known for a long time that artificial sweeteners are toxic. They destroy gut biology and they're addictive because they leave you craving more.
"Low fat" foods are even worse. They substitute natural fats with artificial sweeteners and refined sucrose which plays hell with your blood sugar balance. Low fat foods make you fatter and sicker.

So the same as the shit they are supposed to replace ?? The real key is to take both real sugar and artificial sugar completely out of your diet but they don't ever print that ?
It's worse. Natural sugar is useful if you're a hunter-gatherer expending vast energy on an intermittent food source. Or if you're cold or staving and need a life-saving energy boost. Modern urbanised humans don't need it and it's toxic to our gentle lifestyle. Artificial sweeteners offer nothing but a narcotic hit and they're pure poison.

So, just had a full on health check. Bloods, wee, the lot.
I’m really healthy for my ‘group’ apparently without any red flags other than a BMI of 25, which is overweight apparently. 5, 9 & 12 7?
Just got a text from the Dr asking me to come in to discuss lowering my cholesterol a little.
So, you guys who know about this stuff, what can you share to for arm me?
I don’t know the result yet unfortunately; wasn’t included in the message.
I do eat a very low carb diet now with plenty of whole unprocessed foods. Almost keto I would say if that’s possible.
Just 2 meals a day, no snacks & eat within 8 hour window.
I bet they try to get me on statins; I will decline, but would like to state why.

:)

Your brain is made of cholesterol.
My cholesterol level is 9 . I told the quack I didn't want statins he said there are alternatives but didn't say what.
If you type in 'The benefits of cholestrol' by Dr Berg then lots of videos are available.
Avoid statins at all costs.

My mother-in-law had a level of 8+, never an issue, she was very slim.

My brother was put on statins, about 6 months he came of them, caused a lot of pain.

You'll notice that every so many years the "recommended" cholesterol level drop a bit, it was 5.5 when I had mine done many years ago, now I think it is 4.5?

Not had ours checked in decades.

What is "normal"?? It's a con.

If he tries telling you your cholesterol is high, say 'compared to what'?
What they tell you it should be, is the median rolling figure - so as people have been reducing their cholesterol over the years, that figure comes down. And guess what? Disease has gone up.

It isn't the optimal figure - no one knows what that would be because it will vary for everyone. Every cell in your body needs cholesterol - it is the building blocks of our cells, and the repair tool. If you cut yourself, your body sends cholesterol to heal it. The same with every injury you get...it's first on the scene to repair. That's why they associate it with heart disease - it's not the cause, it's the remedy.

5'9" and 12.7 - overweight my arse.

If he wants you to go in, he defo wants to ring the till on some statins for life.

Now I'm really confused.
The doctor said 9 was high.
I typed in cholesterol level 9 and the computer said:

"A cholesterol level of 9 mg/dL is considered extremely low and may indicate a need for further evaluation by a healthcare provider, as very low cholesterol can also have health implications. It's important to discuss your results with a doctor to understand what they mean for your health."

So who's right or are there more than one scale? and who gives a monkeys anyway?

Cholesterol is a marker its a sign of very little other than your Cholesterol level.. a lot of carnivore/keto eaters have elevated Cholesterol but no plaque build up in the arteries.. if he's genuinely concerned you don't need statins you need a referral to a cardiologist to actually check your arteries the rest is just medication in case... 🙏

The answer to your question , Hugo is as ever - fuck off. That's the answer.

You tell that doctor of yours to fuck off. And tell your computer that, too.

Yay, I helped again!

Yay, I helped again!I had not seen him since 2003.

I went to see him about something else. I was told I had to see the nurse so she could take a blood sample. I made the mistake of assuming it had something to do with the issue I had gone to see him about. I was quite surprised to find the sample was for cholesterol testing. How naive is that? (and that's a rhetorical question before you agree) but you could agree that it's rhetorical.
