My Energy supplier has gone bust.

Britain’s biggest power station sees profits rocket after surge in energy bills

The Selby plant enjoys generous government subsidies but has attracted widespread criticism from environmentalists because it burns wood-chips imported from North American forests.

My energy supplier are still banging on about a smart meter.

When they called before I asked if they thought the readings might be wrong, apparently not but ‘just in case’.

Is it just me, or is that statement complete bollox ?

And finally, I’ve reported them to my mate Jacob Rees Mogg, for bad English.

I was reluctant at 1st to get a smart meter. Very similar to yourself, I kept getting pestered and their reasons were a load of sh**e. Anyway I succumbed in the end as I got sick of sending in readings. I have to say, it's been pretty painless and I see see what I'm using. I've read all the horror stories and conspiracies about them being able to turn me off, or limit use etc, but I've had no issues so far and one less thing to manage in my life.

I ... uh ... OK, I'm happy for you. Stay lucky!

They are really going to regret forcing this on a radio engineer...;)

It looks like one way or another we will all end up with one.
I just wish they would change the name, ‘automatic charge meter’ perhaps 🤷‍♂️

Was looking at some of the ‘deals’ available with other suppliers as there are a few about now. They all state that you have to have a smart meter.

Gas suppliers should refer to them as "Gas Approximeters".

I suspect they will zero in on me (and AI) soon. And once the vast majority have been coerced into having Control Meters, that's when the games can commence.

It is critical that the regulatory authorities decouple the 3 to 1 price linkages between Electricity and Gas.
This has artificially massively increased the cost (profit for agent Alan) of Electricity in the UK.

ALL financial support for so called renewable fuels should be zero.

Fossil fuels made up just 33% of UK electricity supplies in 2023 – their lowest ever share – of which gas was 31%, coal just over 1% and oil just below 1%. Low-carbon sources made up 56% of the total, of which renewables were 43% and nuclear 13%.

And if they are going to keep insisting renewable fuels are cheaper then prices should reflect that too.

My daughter moved into a new house 3 years ago, she hadn't paid gas or electricity the whole time, the electricity company have just caught up so she's had to pay one year estimated backdated but the gas company are still lagging behind, when they catch up she will have to pay a years estimated bill which she has been putting to one side ready.

Chatting with a friend yesterday.

She's been trying to get her Direct Debit reduced with her supplier (gas & electric). £159pm was being demanded - single woman, small house and she's at home at night and one day a week due to work and family commitments.
Big argument saw that the supplier was prepared to take £141pm. My friend said you will be ripping out the new meters you forced me to have and I will be seeking a new supplier asap.
Supplier offered £89pm but told her she'll be underpaid £669 pear year as a result. She said fine, we'll do that.

Bearing in mind she as carrying a seven-fucking-hundred and sixty pound credit under the direct debit scheme and they have refused to repay it.

However much you hate the power companies, it isn't nearly enough.

Latest Con.... I don't have a dual rate and the RTS doesn't turn off for another 14 months.
Hi
Your electricity meter is currently controlled by the Radio Teleswitch (RTS) system. This system is due to be turned off and we urgently need to exchange your meter.
Why do we need to exchange your meter?
The Radio Teleswitch controls essential functionality in your meter including when it switches from peak to off peak rates and in some cases controls when your heating and hot water kick in. Once the RTS system gets switched off this functionality will no longer work as it should and could mean you miss out on lower-cost, off-peak rates but most of all your heating & hot water supply could be at risk as they may not switch on or off.
Don’t worry this does not mean you will lose electricity supply to your property it just means it will stop working as it should.
Please call us on 01443544984 to book a meter upgrade as soon as possible to avoid any potential impacts when this service terminates.
For more information please visit our website eonnext.com/radio-teleswitch-service-rts-is-closing or call us on 01443544984.
Any way we can help we will,
The E.ON Next team

Slightly off topic, but the man (whether you like him or not) makes an extremely valid point which points out the disadvantages that Europe as a whole faces due to the energy price inflation seen in Europe - why that is is an interesting discussion....

Energy prices fall but relief may be temporary Energy price cap change mean lower bills but relief may be temporary

Don’t forget your meter readings today. 👍

“A drop in domestic gas and electricity prices has now taken effect, but costs are expected to rise again in October.”

They’re kindly dropping the price while demand allows them to, but will have to raise prices in October because of. Erm. Greed.

Does anyone know where to find the ‘best before’ date on an electricity meter please ?

Apparently mine has ‘passed’ its best before date and needs to be replaced.

I’m worried it might go mouldy now. 😩
Mine's on the front of the meter. The meter best-before date expired earlier this year.

Some of my electrical outlets are being to smell a bit ripe. They aren't lying when they say these things go off.

I'll try some air freshener, see if it'll help.
