Pet's Corner

I’m trying to explain to Winston that he no longer fits in the tower of power

As our Great Dane hasn't calmed down at all (2.5 years old now) and still bounces around wanting to play with everyone (dogs and people) while out on a walk I thought I'd contact a local dog trainer, as she has a very good reputation.

She visited last week and discussed the best way forward, first impressions are good.

While out on our lunch time walk today there were two ladies walking three dogs on the other side of the road, I didn't recognise them but, turned out to be the dog trainer.

The German Shepherd (who often reacts to small dogs) and the Great Dane sat nicely and watched them walk past, to the amusement of the dog trainer and to my embarrassment.

Anybody want to buy a pair of piss taking dogs ?

I think generally Great Danes get a huge amount of attention and affection when they are out and about. We have this with Louis our large poodle. He loves the fuss and now presumes everybody he sees will tell him what a good boy and how lovely he is. He is now 7 so a little calmer but I wonder if this is what is making your GD so playful and everyone who joins in reinforces it ?
Much like a nicer version of dog barks at postman, postman goes away , repeat daily so the dog presumes his barking scares the postman off.

I think you’re right.

Majority of people recognise he is friendly.

The problem is it’s making it virtually impossible for my wife to walk him, so hoping the trainer will help with ways to stop him getting so excited.
