I think it was ~$225 initial fee, ~$150 every 2 yrs.
I had it since 2006.

While I may be vain, I'm more of a cheapskate in some regards.
 
No, they are issued and controlled by each state. There could be multiple BEA5T plates. 50 actually.

It used to be on an MG, when the lead letters may have had some doctoring :)

I paid 250 quid back in 04 for it. A few paid retentions and one 10 year freebie which was coming up to renewal, so its used again now.

Be just asking for a pull with that.

In the 90's I had a BMW 325 with the Motorsport bodykit like an M3 - it was a dark purply-blue and I had the plate M3 0 WOW (M30 WOW) and never had any trouble in over a year.

Then I swapped for a Dakar Yellow M3 with the same plate - got pulled three times in six months. So I sold the car with the plate.
