What have you done on your bike today?

Having had the Multi on charge I was disappointed when it wouldn't start this morning. The battery is the original from Dec 2017, I have a spare but couldn't be fagged to change it. I jumped on the CCM instead and had a bimble through the lanes to Ashmore and then dropped down to Spring Head near Fontmell Magna....

I tried to start the Multi again today - no go, I put my spare battery on- still no go. I tried to start the DR-Z to use with jump leads -no go. Despite knowing better I jumped on the CCM and rode out though the lanes to Cadbury Castle and back. I could hardly see out the visor as it and the bike were minging

That front mudguard must have been a huge help....

Multi is still refusing to start, despite putting a new, very big tractor battery on it. It still turns over very sluggishly. I will need to find the earthing point and the starter solenoid and check for corrosion or lose terminals. I also found oil on the floor from a leaking fork seal - it doesn't seem that long since I changed it last!

That's what my Streetfighter is doing. On a fully charged battery it won't turn over at all. Doubling up battery power with jump leads it will just about start, if I'm lucky, but very reluctantly. I would have thought that with a bad earth it wouldn't turn at all. I'm looking at either a knackered starter motor or sprag clutch. Both will have to be checked because if the sprag wasn't the original cause of the problem it's probably shot now from repeated failed starts.

I guess you've checked the fork for stone chips?

I've cured minor fork seal seepage on my KTM 1190 with the off-roaders trick of reseating the seals by running a very thin feeler gauge around them.
But fork seals don't like being left idle for long periods of times. They dry out and harden and crack if the bike is parked up for too long without being ridden. When I eventually get my Streetfighter back on the road I'm fully expecting fork seal failure to be the first issue.

Any hi impact front end knocks lately pal 👀👀

Can you bump start it? Just to rule out the operational side of things…

I can't hear the fuel pump working when I switch the ignition on. Should I be able to? I can hear it on the V-Strom. I've checked the fuse and the relay.

At the risk of being compared to PerryL I'll answer my own post.

In order to find out how the fuel pump worked I removed the fuel pipe from the pump and replaced it with an 8mm pipe fed into a jar. I turned the ignition on and nothing happened. I then pressed the starter and fuel came out.
I assume that is what is meant to happen?

Perhaps I should get an electric bike😩

I still would have thought it should prime. It would not prime if the kill switch was off, but it wouldn't crank then either. I would do a quick check of the clutch and sidestand switches to make sure both are functioning normally. Then throw my hands up in the air dramatically and flounce off. Proper flounce mind you, none of this macho bullshit!

When I pulled the fuel pipe out it was under pressure and sprayed fuel in my face.

You should hear it run briefly just to pressurise the line. It will then stop but start to run again when you press the start button.

Curious as to how you got the 8mm pipe in when testing it into a jar? Just forced it in against the spring loaded shut off valve?

Have you checked for a spark at each cylinder?

That's the next step. We started with the fuel as we couldn't smell any at the exhaust.

"Curious as to how you got the 8mm pipe in when testing it into a jar? Just forced it in against the spring loaded shut off valve?"

Just pushed it into the top of the pump assembly from which we'd removed the 8mm outlet pipe.
